Chlorine in drinking water??

I have a 5 gallon auto-waterer and the bowl greens up after 4-5 days. I was just reading about the different kinds of water buckets you guys use and saw that some guys add chlorine to keep the green down.

How much chlorine do I add (for 5 gallons) to be safe for the dogs?

What kind of chlorine do you guys use?

Is there any links or literature that somebody could throw my way?

( I know that there is some chlorine in city water- must be why those folks act so goofy )

I use Clorox, not chlorine. For 5 gallon bucket, add 4 teaspoons or so. I leave it overnight and then for one day. After that, change to fresh water. Dogs don't mind it.

If you have spare buckets, put one in pen and take old green one out and in that case, put half a cup in the bucket outside the pen full of water and leave it for two days. All green will be gone and won't come back for a while.

I give my dogs fresh water everyday. I use 1 gallon galvanized containers and put about a teaspoon in each one on a daily basis. I think the chlorine has some medicinal benefits also. I do this year round and have never had a problem at all.

Use bleach, you don't wanna be mess'n with straight chlorine.
