Question on rabbits. Do tame or domesticated type rabbits smell the same as cottontails? I can get them super cheap and was curious if it was a good idea. thanks in advance for your response. dave
ive tried some tame ones before with pups. of course a pup will chase about anything so i let it run thru the yard and then let one of the older dogs out. she stopped and checked the line, but never opened or seemed too excited. not sure, but it seems to me that the scent just isnt the same. im sure it wouldnt do any harm at all, but i dont think the scent is the same. ive had similar results with a drag and rabbit scent. guess nothing beats the real thing.

havent yet tried it.
for a pup not yet chasing any scent at all, I thought it would be a step in the right direction, but I have not tried it yet. I normally start them when they are ready but I was thinking about stepping up the process a little with a tame rabbit.blackdirt beagles wrote:ive tried some tame ones before with pups. of course a pup will chase about anything so i let it run thru the yard and then let one of the older dogs out. she stopped and checked the line, but never opened or seemed too excited. not sure, but it seems to me that the scent just isnt the same. im sure it wouldnt do any harm at all, but i dont think the scent is the same. ive had similar results with a drag and rabbit scent. guess nothing beats the real thing.
