For the guys w/ heated bowels
What is your set up. How many? What size extension chord? I have four and tried to run a 12/3 chord with a 12/3 surge protector and darn thing melted. Almost caught my kennel on fire. Thank god it didnt. I think I got a bad chord. I am just wondering what you guys use. Thnx.....
Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
I have 10 bowls on 1- 20amp breaker plugged into a GFCI outlet.
Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
Sounds like your problem is something else, like you have a bad breaker or something, they shouldn't pull that much to cause them to melt. They only take between 25 and 60 watts which is less that most light bulbs.
Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
I have had them plugged in since Nov. I have 4 bowels plugged in. I think I got a bad chord. It just doesnt make sense. I checked the wattage and all it is 25 a bowel. 100 watts total.

Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
must be a bad cord I have 6 that pull 60 watt max on a 12/3 and ran it about 150 foot with no issues, If all of mine are pulling full load it only measures a little over 3 amps. I checked with my meter when I saw your post. Being an elect. I would say it was a bad cord
Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
I replaced the old chord when this happened. I had it plugged in for a coule weeks w/ no issues. Knock on wood. They arent plugged in now. Thanks for the advice.....
Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
Do you have the bowls or the heater inserts? I was told that the heater inserts pull a lot more electricity.
Re: For the guys w/ heated bowels
Just bowels...No inserts

You can find them cheaper. They have a thermastat. I just cut the top off a 5 gallon bucket and plug in the de icer.
