DON'T HOLD THE DOOR FOR ME

Post by db215 »

I was in at a well known supply house the other day getting so dog food and other things and went to leave and there was a young woman about 30 that had four or five boxes in her hands that was following me out and I opened the door and told her to go on out. She begin real quick to lecture me on the fact that she did not want me nor any other man to open the door for her and it offended her when a man did that for her, she told me that I was old fashion and that men ought to forget that kind of thing and not do it any longer. I told her kindly that I was raised that way and I thought it honored women when men did that. She replied that to her it was a offense and it makes her mad when it happens. I told her sorry and walked out..........you won't believe what happened next........
I shut the door and she waited for a few seconds before she went out and she opened the first door and came out and then she got to the next door (double doors) she started to open it and another man opened the door just as she tried and out she came with all the boxes falling in front of her. The other man said I'm sorry and started to help her pick up the boxes and she came unglued on him telling him to leave them alone and get out of the way, he backed up without a word and she picked up her boxes and marched to her car. No lie, it really happened that way!!
First time in my 50 years that a woman has ever said anything but thank you and a smile, I was shocked and still can't believe it happened. Anyone else had this happen to them? Is this old-fashioned and does this really offend women now? dboman

By the way, I forgot to say that I had 50 pounds of dog food and a sack of supplies in my hand when I opened the door for her. I didn't wait long to get out of there, it was embarrassing to me.

This happen to me the other day, I was in a Dr.s office and I seen this gentleman in a wheelchair coming toward the door I just opened the door for him and he blessed me and everyone in the waiting room out saying he was not helpless, I was like you I was raised to help people in need plus be respectful to woman as well as my elders. It is on occasion you meet people like that, who do not want help, but most people appreciate it. If some one opens the door for me, I am only 59 years old but I like it. It shows respect not pity.

That's exactly why I only shop in stores where they have those automatic doors. Life is hard enough without me having to decide the politically correct thing to do with a door.

If I'm entering or exiting a place and someone meets me at the door I will hold it open for them. I have never had anyone say anything but thank you, she was probably just having a bad day and you guys got to be the ones she went off on

I still open doors for people, especially ladies. I still open the door for my wife as well. That is the way I was raised.

Here a story I have about opening doors:

I was in the gas station. Paid for my fuel. A man was at the other register. I started walking to the door about the same time he did. I opened the door, and the cashier told this man he forgot his change. He quickly stopped and rushed back to the cash register. It didn't take him five seconds to get his change. Well, I was in no hurry, and stood with the door open waiting on him to walk out. He walks right out and says nothing. Not a thank-you, not anything. So, I said to myself, I can let this go or I can say something. (In my younger years I may have said something a little more rude, but my attitude has changed for the better with age.)

I walked over to him before he got in his truck, looked him in the eye, and said to him "Your welcome." He looks at me like he just swallowed skunk juice, and says, "I am sorry. Thanks." I turned around and walked to my truck. People seem to be in BAD moods more often than good.

You should have said, sorry I mis-took you for a lady. Have good day then shut the door.
I was at the Vet's the other day waiting. A lady paid her bill picked up her dog in one hand and had meds in the other. I jumped up, opened the door, and as she walked out she thanked me. The receptionist also thanked and I told her it doesn't cost anything to be nice. I guess I was wrong.

I am married to one like that, you sort of like it in the beggining, until you have an issue with the step kids, and god forbid, you try to have any control over your house- hold. women these days are to independant, and all has gotten away from gods word.

ackermanich,

I know how you feel. I teach these types of kids everyday. It is amazing how some of these kids think. It's the good kids that keep me in the teaching profession. Although, it gets tougher every year I am not a quitter. I find myself teaching kids more morals than anything else. But, that can be a touchy situation too. :annoyed:

Your not the only one Schag....my wife teaches 4th grade and deals with issues that you and I could not even imagine. What some of these 10 and 11 year old kids are facing on a daily basis is truely unbelievable. Heck for that matter you wouldn't believe some of the stuff I deal with...most "young" hires rank deciding if they should come to work as their 3rd or 4th biggest decision of their day, instead of managing them I end up being a mentor just get them to show up and be productive....most times they don't show up. In one case I was paying for the kids (19yo) gas our of my own pocket to get back and forth to work so he could "save" his money to put towards a community college (I truely believed in this kid and thought he could be something in life)....care to guess where his money was going..it wasn't being saved but rather being handed to the local drug dealer. The only way I found out was through a random pee test and he tested positive...I was a FOOL!!! Complete lack of respect!!!!

Schag, Ohiohnter,I would have to agree with you on the lack of respect and lack of morals in kids these days, but to let our genneration of the hook for this isn't fare to these kids.To just say they are terrible kids to me should put it back to the way we raised them.
