Good Vet for Artificial Insemination

Post by Beagle Huntsman »

I want to breed to an old Indian Hills Trapper male who can no longer get the job done the "normal" way. Does anyone out there have a vet that specializes in artificial insemination? I'm in SE Ohio, but would be willing to travel some to find a vet who is good at this.

Thanks

Hi Tim:
I havent talked to you in a while, hope your doing well with your hounds and all.I found several vets around the colombus oh. area that do this, for Alfred and Prince since Prince will be 10 yrs. old this year he can sometimes get it done and sometimes not,it depends on the bitch it seem like.We found one in particular who is very, very reasonable and is very professional and this vet has succesfully done this twice with Prince already. You have to be careful this is done by me up here in N.E.oh.particularily in the cleveland area but it is very, very expensive with most vets up here.Unfortunately I dont remember his name or phone no.but if you call Alfred @740-816-3290 he will be glad to give you the contact info on him, also he would probably like to hear from you,as he really enjoyed your visit to his place and really appreciated your knowledge of the good old hounds.
hope this helps,Vic

I've found with older hounds being used at stud, make sure their teeth are good, have a sperm count done by a vet, allow a couple days for the mating, don't feed the hounds at least 12 hrs. before mating, if at all possible go natural if you can... ;)
Best o luck with your breeding... ;)

Thanks guys!

Vic: If you speak with Alfred sometime, ask him the name of the Columbus Vet he is using. It will be a couple of months before I need them. THANKS

Lance: The dog I want to breed to is by Trapper and out of my female line. He's just a personal gundog owned by a young fellow at work. I bred to Trapper once in the late 90s.
