Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I had a pitbull come in on my pack while they were running and jump on one of my dogs I herd her sound like she was hurt and I ran to her he had her down I got him away and she just lie on the ground not moving I checked her and she was not hurt bad but she was in shock . I put my coat around her and carried her back to the truck when I got back to the truck she hopped up and was acting fine. But it was months before she would hunt again take her out and she stayed right with me she never hunted the same again she was scared of strange dogs and would not hunt with them. Possibly something happened that scared this dog maybe close call with a Yote. Put the dog up for a while give it time to forget.

I had a hound that was accidentally shot during a hunt, for the longest time afterwards, when he saw anyone in a hunting party thereafter, he would quit and come looking for me. He slowly came to trust people again.
A bad experience with yotes or another hound is very plausible.

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I bought a pair of pup last summer. They both were running rabbits at 5 months. I gave one to my buddy for running them for me. the other was a jumping, running machine. At 6 months, i thought i had my next jump dog. He would jump 4-5 rabbits a day and loved the gun. He went straight down hill. I just give him away. He'll still makes every race and gets a check now and then, but i can't rember the last rabbit he jumped. I never run him solo. The only thing i can figure is he got too dependent on the pack jumping rabbits.
Keep the best, cull the rest!

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I think that little female needs a change of address. I have a pen waiting on her in Houston.
Give her some time and just run her with her kennel mate a time or two.

Walt, how have you been? I have had her out with her kennel mates at least 3-4 times a week for the past 3-4 months still no change in her, she wont run alone and she will not go to the race I heard that when pups are started at such a young age they can eventually blow up not all but some have you herd of this?

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I have not heard dogs blowing up because they started early. I have a dog that is five now and has been running his own rabbit since 4 months. He has more desire and heart than any other dog I have had and will work for a rabbit all day long. I would say either something scared her or maybe she does not have the hunt you thought he had. Now I have seen some lazy beagle who will hang at your feet until another dog jumps a rabbit and will only then join in.

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I know her kennel mates. They can put a lot of pressure on a young hound just brace her with your Iron Mike female or Dot and I think see will go.
Re: Has anyone had this problem?
Walt, I have tried to brace her and get the same result, I have also tried to solo her with the same outcome. I even had her in houston on main and a rabbit ran into her and she didnt go.

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
Have you guys shocked those dogs off game? If not maybe kidney problems? Do they drink a lot of water?
Re: Has anyone had this problem?
If you feel that there is nothing wrong physically with her, I would leave her at home for a month or so while running the other dogs. When you decide to finally take her out again, keep her on the lead strap until the other dogs get one up and running hot, then turn her into them. I would guess that she will be chomping at the bit to go!
Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I agree Brad I have seen a young hound do this before it took awhile but eventually she came out of it. Seems they just kind of blow up from pressure the only one i have ever seen come back from it the guy who owned her had good running right behind his house so he put her in the kennel for about a month and a half and ran the other dogs behind his house alot then one day when he was running the others he heard her howling up at the pen he let her out and she packed right up and never looked back thats been 2 years ago now and she is still running strong. Sounds like the same kind of thing though his female started young and he ran her in packs with older dogs.

I think I am going to sit her up for few weeks and try her again.

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
Sounds to me like she is gun shy. Tie her out and shoot near her and see what happens. If that is what the problem is, it isn't hard to fix. Search some of these forums for "gun shy" and you will get all the advise you can stand, both good and bad

Re: Has anyone had this problem?
I had a friend that ran a young dog with his older experienced very fast dog. The outcome was the young dog flat quit. I realize this may not happen to all but it sure did to this young dog that at one time was doing great. I guess he figured he was never going to get the front even though he would get a few checks.
