How many have had luck with a runt of the litter?
Just curious who's had the runt of the litter turn out to be a real good rabbit dog?
Re: How many have had luck with a runt of the litter?
I always pick the runt, The 2 females I got here at my place that have been kicking butt for me are both runts. I would pick the runt before I picked any other dog. I have had awesome luck with runts and my first pick is almost always a runt.

Stan, I always pick the runt if its a female and I have the choice, my pup Daisy was the runt of the litter and I am really happy with her at this point. Kurt

i kept the runt in my litter and it turned out to be the biggest one in the litter also kept the biggest one and the runt is doing a little better
Re: How many have had luck with a runt of the litter?
I think I ended up with a runt, never seen the rest of the litter, compared to another puppy that was like two months younger she was still smaller, kind of timid. But I had made arrangements to purchase her sight unseen. The fellow bought her down to me and paid him. At this point since I have had her now for like 3 months, shes priceless, she has a real squeaky voice, but when she opens up, you had better get ready to cock that hammer back.

I have one that is now 4 1/2 yrs that turned out pretty good. Just let everyone else pick theirs and kept what was left. After having said that I don't think because it's the runt is any reason to believe it will turn out being the best one.

Ohiogary, is she still timid? I have a similar situation as you. Pup's been here 1 week now & she is slowly getting over timidness.
Re: How many have had luck with a runt of the litter?
Runts start out with a rough road to hold against the rest of the litter and as most have stated turn out very well. Most are very independent and take no crap off other dogs and aren't influenced by them either. I have a little male that was the runt of his litter born in December and mom kept him pushed out of the brooder and in the cold all the time. He spent many a winter morning stiff as a board. One of the family would go out and get him every morning and put him in bed with my daughter to warm him up. I never figured he would make it, or make a rabbit dog. Ole Bingo will be buried here some day, hopefully not soon though.
