Fox pens under fire in Georgia

Post by SouthernBeagles »

Fox 5 news I team in Atlanta is running a series on Fox Pens and the blood sport of running in pens. Right now its just foxes and yotes, but how long before the rabbit pens come under fire??

This whistle was blown by a wife going through a bitter divorce and in an attempt to make her husband look bad, she is drawing negetive attention to the entire sport.

See the link below for the story. It wll be airing again at 10pm.

Yeah they like the meat, just want it to appear by magic without anything ugly happening. Kinda like Woody Allen said, I'm not afraid of death, just don't want to be there when it happens. :P

Unfortunately we live in a world where even we rabbit hunters will one day be portrayed in the same light as the Michael Vick's of the world. I would hate to think that something that is as much a part of me as eating and sleeping could be considered a "blood sport". Its scary but I can see it happening. Its really scary to think about what I would do with myself if I couldn't run my dogs.

The states are in a downward spiral. People from Georgia need to call these idiots out for what they are.
What a joke these news anchors are. Almost laughable.
And the vindictive x-b*#%h who now has religion. What a hyprocrite. It was OK when she was married but now that she is pissed off about her divorce....

Hard to find a good woman these days... especially once they find out that you hunt, fish, play golf and run a gang of beagles,

Larry G,
If my husband played golf, I would be sitting on the green practicing my dove hunting skills by trying to shoot the ball as it flew by. ;) The hunting, fishing and dog running we do either apart or together. I don't need him holding my hand to deer hunt, rabbit hunt, fish, trial, or run dogs but I do enjoy when we go together.

Not all women are bad. Heck the only problem George and I would have would be a heck of a custody battle over who got which dogs if we ever got a divorce! Oh and he aint getting my deer rifle or shotgun either....or my truck and dog box. The shock collars might be a problem.

I posted this topic because it DOES scare the heck out of me. The ONLY difference between these guys and us is the game they run. Many of us start our pups in pens. Some trials are ran in large pens. Some people even have personal running pens of 20+ acres. These pens the fox hunters use are hundreds of acres. The one under fire is 1800 acres or nearly 3 square miles! And they call this a blood sport.

I only wish the fox hunters would change their wording on the blogs. They keep calling this "Pen Fox Hunting" when all they are doing is running their dogs on fox, not shooting. The word "Hunting" leads people to believe there is a kill at the end of the chase. We don't rabbit hunt in pens, we "train" or "run dogs".

Today this is the Fox Hunters under fire. Tomorrow its us.

Piece of cake. (*snorts*)

Truer words were never spoken. It's time to start gathering in numbers to fight this. We let this crap get aired on TV and we let it go unanswered. We bitch and moan amongst ourselves when we should be collectively lobbying and demanding equal media coverage and an education to the public that "things are not as they seem."

SB I saw this story when it was shown, I even called some running buddies and told them to tune in. I was completly outraged at the way they depicted this story, "Blood Sport" , "chasing game with no escape", if it can't get away in an 1800 acre pen its not getting away any where!!! I know that people that are ingnorant to the sport are going to see crap like this and say O my we have to stop these brutal savages. The "NEWS" is suppose to be UNBIOS but it would appear they are a group of fruits cakes looking for anything to exploit. This STORY may have stuck the wrong cord with me but, fox hunter beagler, bird dog, we are all the same breed. If they are attacking any of us they are attacking all of us and that makes me MAD!!!! Whew I feel better anyway, what else can I do but vent a little...what can we do to fight back to junk like this?
When all else fails take the dogs running

Public Education is what we can do... That is what clubs are suposed to do is public education. They are encouraged to educate the public in a number of ways from pet care to what the dogs really do and what they were bred to do.

Like Bev Says we have to organize, get our acts together and make our side heard. How can the public know any difference if we don't educate them to the facts, they only see the fiction that is spun to them by sensationalist.

We all need to advocate our sport, envite the spinners to really go out and see what it is we do, not just get the behind the scenes bs that is pumped to em by sensationalist seekers.

How many of us feed our families by hunting, and how many couldn't make it through the year with out that meat we get from our hunting? Does hunting help your budget through the lean times of low paychecks? Sure it does. How many folks provide food for those that don't have? Many of you do, and where would they have gotten that meal if it werent for the hunter that shared his catch? Might not of had a dinner. I know that there has been many a time I felt grateful for that hunted dinner I had. Might have been able to buy a chicken at the store, but then on the other hand at the price of beef heck I would be bankrupt if I had to buy beef for every meal.

As for Coyotes and Fox, we might not eat them, however these animals are predators and anything smaller or weaker then them is prey. They could turn on the dog just the same as they could prey on the neighbors cats, chickens, dog, or children, all that needs to happen is a small child look like prey and a coyote would take it. In a 1800 acre pen enclosure or what ever you want to call it I would think that there is enough escape routes that they could get away and never be seen. It is one of those things where the public needs educated. They are thinking that this is a pen the size of their back yard I am sure. It is the sensationalist that put that thought in their head now we have the duty to educate them.

Take away the fences. Release the dogs into nature. Do what the antis want you to do...and guess what will happen when nature takes over? The outcome will be the same. The dogs will run the snot out of the foxes, rabbits and deer, and most will get away, but occasionally one won't. This is the reality of nature...not something we are forcing upon these animals. We are simply allowing what comes natural to the animals in an environment that's safe from larger predators and semi-trailers, the dogs will sleep in a warm kennel at night and get their vaccinations and healthcare during the day. The foxes and rabbits will get food and cover.

What they should worry about is the land development for new houses that will sit empty in 2 years, and burning off of thousands upon thousands of acres of animal habitat that occurs all over the country. Ya know why so many areas of the south now run foxes and coyotes? Because the states burned off all the cover for whatever reason, and the rabbits no longer had cover from the yotes, foxes, and hawks. They've pretty much disappeared in some areas.

We didn't dink with nature - THEY did. We "collectively" fenced off thousands of acres of ANIMAL PRESERVE (that they couldn't pour concrete over), if you want to get right down to it.

Spoke with 3 DNR officers the other day from GA. They all know me and have seen my running pen and have also checked it to make sure I wasn't setting traps for owls or hawks. From what they told me they are looking for people that have pens where they have game in them that didn't get there on their own.Chances are if they have a fox in their pen it was trapped, transported and a exchange of money for it was made.If you have a pen that looks like rabbits can exist there from breeding on their own and it has the habitat for the rabbits to live in then they are not concerned with that.It is against the law to trap and traffic animals and sell them also. This is what their investigation has been on and the charges are being made based upon that.I was sweating bullets when I read the article in the paper and checked on it for my own sake.
