Gone to Canada - Please read

Post by Bev »

As of October 10 (tomorrow), I will be gone to attend the International Beagle Fox trial. (I have some pups qualified - wish me luck! )

Aaron Bartlett has full admin controls, so if you need assistance, e-mail him directly instead of relying on the automated system. Aaron's e-mail is stony_branch_kennels@hotmail.com

I'll see y'all in a week!

Bill, (I'm here posting from Canada) They are the littermates to the ones that came back. The ones that came back were better suited for cottontails, but these three big boys up here love the foxes, and can flat honk. Now they just need some maturity to measure up to these seasoned dogs.

The boys from Georgia and elsewhere in the south will arrive here (Canada) today bringing 25 dogs, so we are looking at a run-off of at least 50 pre-qualified dogs. BTW, we are holding to the 15" requirement, and both the US and Canadian flags will be flying! It's gonna be a blast - lots of good ol' homemade meals, like venison stew, hams, baked beans, fish chowder, roast beef and all the fixin's, courtesy of the host for this year's trial, the Canadian Beagle Fox Trial Assoc. (CBFTA).

Awards will be given for:

Top Ten High-Scoring Males
Top Ten High-Scoring Females
Overall Winner (Field)
Best Mouth
Classiest Hound
Best Female Show
Best Male Show

jb, it's awesome music, but we are running in a couple of 100+ acre red fox only pens. Big enough to feel like the wild, but no fears of losing a dog. I though somebody told me there were a couple of fox pens in WV...?

Hurry on up. Cast time is 7:00 am tomorrow. ;)

Gotta go now - just cooked a big ham, baked beans, cole slaw, etc. for the gang for the Friday night supper at the hunt camp.

Talk to y'all Sunday night!

wvduece, There are women like that out there! My Wife loves to run dogs! There are many times I'll go out running the older dogs, and come home and find one of the two way radios sitting on the kitchen table, and she's out back running the younger ones, or soloing her own dogs. Her roots are from West Virginia to! She even cleans kennels and feeds the dogs if I'm gone, or she gets home before I do! :D

jb, they did really well for pups! They didn't embarrass me a bit. All three had positive score on Saturday, allowing them to return on Sunday. Moe had something like 355 points on Saturday, making him second highest scoring male for the day.

On Sunday, Moe, BigGun, and Patch did well - BigGun had 3 first line and drives, Moe ran one fox solo, but those two petered out with 30 minutes left in the trial and were scratched. I wasn't surprised - the running was hard, heads-up honkin' both days. Patch had less score but hung in there till the end and got 7th place. If Moe and BigGun had hung in there for 30 more minutes on Sunday they would have placed 5th and 6th in the males, with Patch being 7th.

I can't complain. This is my very first trophy on a Freedom Run hound. (Many thanks to Dan Kane for running my pups with his killer hounds for the past 3 months.)

I'm getting the full results together and will post them on the CBFTA site and here. It was a great trial. The boys from Georgia and South Carolina took home Highest Scoring female and ten other field awards, Best Mouth, and Best Male Show. The Canadians got Highest Scoring male who got the overall, 8 other field awards, Best Female Show and Classiest hound. It was really a great event, and will be hosted in the States next year.
