If it is KC, it has to run it's course. There is nothing you can give to "cure" it, but some will give antibiotics to reduce the threat of secondary infections that can occur. It usually last about 10 - 14 days and then goes away. Robitussen is commonly used to help "quiet" the hacking cough and loosen the mucous that developes in the lungs.
KC is a blanket term for a variety of conditions known as Bronchiseptica, which is a bronchial infection (similar to bronchitis) and caused by several different species of bacteria.
There is a risk of Pneumonia developing, but it is really more of a risk in older dogs, very young pups, and dogs with other health issues. Otherwise healthy adults can usually pull through this without concern of more serious problems.
Here's a good source of information on "kennel cough"

Education, Preservation, and Conservation ensures a "WILD" future for our children!
Like Bunny Runner said, Robitussen will help. A buddy of mine who is a vet prescribes Hydrocodone/Homatropine tablets.
