What would you do?

Post by Chain rock »

I have a dog whose nostrils inside and out are completely raw and swollen, scared to put anything on it that could hurt his scenting ability. Has anyone ever had this happen to your dog? What type of meds. does he need? Any advice would help.

If the dog is hurt, you need to leave it up until it heals.

Well if its from Runnin I would just put neosporin or 3 in 1 ointment on its nose I just dont see how it could hurt the Senting ability of the Dog it aint like yer jammin it up inside its Nose just smear a little around and just inside the nostrils (Flute)
now if the swellin is bad I use bennedril childs dose Will help it could be an allergic reaction to something.. I have a little female that every time she runs in heavy Wild or Dixie rose her flutes Swell shut and she breaks out all over with little puss pockets benedril and 3 in 1 or triple antibiotic does the trick....

I think I'd be wanting to find out WHY his nostrils are swollen and I certainly would keep him home until he's better. A trip to the vet is probably in order. could it be allergies? We are still cold here in utah so, nothing is blooming yet.

Best to find out what is causing this and get it cured. The only thing similar that one of my dog's had once was a type of bacterial infection but it does not sound like the same problem. If the dog is raw and swolen like you say sounds like there could be some infection involved. That could cause serious problems. Would get to a vet and find the problem and hopefully a speedy cure so that you don't loose too much field time.
