Looking For A Show Beagle

Post by beaglesarethebest »

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good breeder of show beagles.

I think your best bet is to try to find someone near you. This site is probably the best to research http://www.showbeagle.com Also, if you can attend some local shows and get to know the breeders and their dogs you can decide who you'd like to get started with.

best of luck,

Leah

Do you want an AKC/UKC show beagle or a hunting beagle with good structure to show at the bench shows at hunts. At this point you will likely need to sacrifice hunt for show or show for hunt. Although some breeders are trying to develope total dogs it will take generations of selective breeding to find bloodlines that consistently excell at both. Let me know what your interest is and the state you live in and I will try to get you more interest.

Thanks for the link Leah, this board provides more information than absolutely anywhere else. I am a new trialer but always felt that there's nothing wrong with having an outstanding looking and working hound. Is there any hound that comes to mind that has both looks and great hunt ? I always thought it would be nice to breed beauty and brains but the guys around here thought I was nuts........ but then again I'm a girl ! LOL

If you are attending shows now then you should introduce yourself to the breeders in your area. I'm sure they'll be happy to help you.

Have seen some good hunt characteristics from Briarhill and Echo Run beagles. Both very successful show breeders. AKC but could be registered with UKC or others. Anyone know of show kennels with some hunt instinct. Briarhill is not active but may posibly guide you to someone. What type of trials do you go to? I bred an excellent Briarhill female to a good structured White River male with exceptional hunt and got 1 excellent structured female that is really running a rabbit great. They are UKC registered. 3 other females that are better than most and would be fun to show but may not be best-in-show material. All have excellent hunt potential to go with their sound structure.

The pup pictured on my thread entitled "new male, worth trying to start" will be for sale soon, and at a very reasonable price. Ask Honeypot how she likes the one she got from me. He started running rabbits just fine but is more of a little pack style of dog and I do not compete in that.

Wow Jen! Your Logan is looking like quite the well conditioned hound there. Love the picture! I better change mine until Curly Joe hardens up a little (after living the soft life of a lazy Playboy down at Larry G's, LMAO!!)

Glad you made it to the sight!
