funny breathing noise????

Our Beagle had a terrible breathing noise happen tonight. She had just opened her Christmas present that her Grammy sent her and I gave her a treat that she got as a present and she like lost her breath and was hypoventilating. She has done this before but not this bad and for this long. Does anyone know what this could be? We live in a very small town in Alaska and I have to wait to see if the Vets in tomorrow. I think when we first got her 20 mons. ago I heard of something about Beagles making funny noises.

This is most likely something we call reverse sneezing. It is a spasm of the diaphragm that causes a funny noise. The dog's rib cage draws in and they hunch the back. There is not usually a need to see a vet about it. Hold your hand over the nose to make the dog mouth breath. My hounds have all done this. Excitment, swallowing wrong or breathing something in when hunting can be the trigger. Carolyn
