dog out of breath

Post by oldhickory »

I have a female that is 3 years old, when i take her out she runs fine, but after 45 minutes she starts wheezing and panting like she can't breathe. When i put her on a lead to walk her back to the truck, she'll lay down and keeps struggling for air. Has anyone experienced this? She has not done this before this season. Could it be heartworms? I have had her on Ivomec and never missed a dose. I have 4 other dogs, and none of them have this problem.

Had a male that started this same thing at about the same age. Come to find out his sire and one of his litter mates also had this problem that ended up being a problem with fluid collecting around the heart and also an enlarged heart. His litter mate ended up dieing from it and the guy that owns his sire has to give him a fluid pill every day.Not saying this is what's ailing your hound, but I would let the vet have a look at him if I was you. It could be allergies ,either way I would let a vet check her out.
