cant recall what it called is but 99% of vets wont do it anymore...i was told it is dangerous for the female. i called A LOT of vets and basically they all told me you have to let mother nature takes its course. im sure thats not what you wanted to hear but neither did i at the time.

make sure the females thyroid is ok because that will stop her heat cycles if it is out of whack.

It's true.I called my local vet & asked him if there was a shot I could give my 4 yr. old bitch because she hasn't came back in since 2 yrs. ago.Don't know the name of the shot but here,it only cost $15 for him to check the dog out make sure every thing is all right & for him to give her the shot.It is perfectly safe.

I gave this shot to a female 5 years ago when she was about 2. She has never has a normal heat cycle since. As a matter of fact I tried to breed her just about every year for the last 5 years. She finally had her first little of pups last fall at age 7. I was told the shot was safe, but I'd never give one again.

My father in law has a bitch that had a very irregular cycle. He bred her once 4 years ago and never came in heat again. He took her to the vet and he give her pills to make her come in heat. It worked, took 2 weeks, but he had a nice litter of pups last summer. I can't remember the name of the pill.

Better look at the thread Bev put up.I've talked to several different vets
on this subject even talked to the head vet at U.TN. Vet school. There is NOT a safe drug for dog to make them cycle. There are for some other anamials cattle for sure cause I've used it several times. And this might
be what some are talking about but 98% of the time it will cause your bitch
to have signs of a heat but she will not whelp pups and more than likely
never carry pups. Now this is just what I've been told I've never tryed it
no a dog but it seemed each vet had the same story so I took the doctors
advice and it not try it.Good luck if you chose to go that route.

Years ago we had a foxhunting friend tried it on his foxhound. At this time it was called mares - syrom for race horses and they were using it on dogs.

This fellows experience ended in disaster . This nice gyp died about a week later.
For some reason her body took a reaction to it .

I am a firm believer if the gyp never comes into heat in her lifetime ,that her body maybe doesn't have the proper make - up to have pups naturally ?
just a thought ?

happy hounding
