lost my dog
Man. This sucks. Huntstarted out good. got two bunnies in the pack within 20 minutes of starting. We wandered around for awhile then the beagle took off. Ran into some hunters about an hour later that said he was chasing 2 moose. We followed his tracks for a ways but it was getting dark.
I went home and got his kennel and a blanket and dropped it off where we started that day. I will go back in the morning to check and see if he is there.
I cant believe he would run Moose, even harder to believe they would run from him. My worst fear is that they got tired of running and then eventually stomped him.
Its gonna get cold tonight, 25 degrees is the forecast. So what do you guys think? Have I got a good chance of getting him back? I need to hear some feel good stories right now.

My experience Beagles are pretty tough in the cold. Had our old male that had been missing for four days. He was in great health. The female wasnt, on day five when we found her, but a day at the vets, and some good rest and she was doing great. This was two or three years back, cant even remember how long now. Temps were in the single digits and below. Good luck to you. We will be thinking of you in this house. Been there. Done that. Hope you find him.

Phew! what a relief. got up at 4 this morning, made the hour drive and there he was in his kennel. He must have had a rough night. he looked pretty scared when I showed up. He didnt want to come out of his kennel and kinda flinched when I reached in there. He sniffed my hand and gave it a little lick but still didnt want to come out. I had to reach in and grab him.
He was thirsty and hungry but is sleeping pretty soundly now.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. You guys are great. Now what brand and model of tracking collar do you guys recomend I get?

Good to here things worked out for you
I didn't want to say so while the dog was missing. But in deep snow moose can be dangerous. They can out run the dog as the beagle flounders they can close in on them and lay a stomping on them.
It's been my experince a harassed moose in the winter will stay in the open so it can turn on it's pursuer. The poor dog has nowhere to hide.
I have never lost one but have heard of it
