Poor Hondo. If being called a girl hurt your feelings.......you better stay on the porch, lol. You got to watch low level dwellers like myself. Shame on me............Hondo wrote:Randy:
I am always surprised at people who, when their opinion is challenged, start calling names. Shame on you.
I will not lower myself to your level.

Pound The Ground. Now I said I hoped I wouldn't ruffle too many feathers sorry I got your dander up. That being said, I never implied it was o.k. to run an oversize hound. I just asked if the better dog is say 15 1/2 inches but he can't compete folks breed to the titled hound because of the title then your not breeding the best to the best. Just because one dog measures in and another does not and the bigger hound is better shouldn't folks be breeding to the better hound? I have a darn good one that is over sized "just a little" I probably could get him through most trials but I don't because I know he is over. But if he whips butt most days in the field no matter what size dog he is running with why should I not consider him the best bet to breed too? Again I never said it was o.k. to trial an oversized hound but if it is a better dog then it should be the one passing on the genes. Just my humble opion O.K.? Good running. Hare

Folks, I've never trialed a beagle, only coonhounds where age of hound is what is used in lieu of size. To me the size would make no difference in the hunting ability of the hound and the rules themselves allow for larger dogs to compete with smaller ones. If you got one that measures 13 1/8" you'd have to compete with the big dogs in the 15" class just as your 12" would have to compete with a full 13" dog class. The problem I have with this, isn't about trial rules but BREED rules that state a beagle over 15" isn't eligible to be registered...period! How can a registration allow one to campaign a dog that isn't even eligible to be registered? Says a little about the registry to me.

I think that the breed standard is fine the way it is, that being said the overall physical size of the dog means absolutely nothing to me but, the size of- or amount of determination of the dog is where the size should truly be measured. I own a thirteen and a couple of fifteens and this is the last thing I look at when judging a hound.

i didnt know your oversized dog couldnt be registerd. when you regiser an akc dog 99 out of 100 are registerd befor they are full grown. nkc is a different story all they have to do is look like a full blooded hound to be registerd. if the dog looks 15" or under some guys wont measure the dog they just sign the papers and there you go you have a nkc registerd beagle.

pound the ground you said you wouldnt breed that dog because he is 16". i disagree with that if the dog is akc registerd. just because he is big doesnt mean that he will throw big pups. breed him to a smaller female 13 or 13 1/2 pups may turn out just right. take a chance if he's as good as you say.

Well stated. I agree 100%.
Wrongside:
You talk tough. How are you face-to-face? I have a feeling that you are under 6 feet tall. About 5'8"?
