Crew chf,
I don't shock my dogs a half mile away I keep mine close when they are hunting.

I have shocked myself on every level of the collar and I know what it feels like some people call me crazy but i'm not going to do it to the dog if I won't do it to myself. And the harder u push on the contact points the more it hurts. I've knocked myself down a few times on #6 while it was strapped to my leg.

If you haven't tried it maybe you should and you will see what your dogs are really feeling.

haha i've never hit myself but i sat at the table while my buddy did he took 1 and 2 said 2 hurt a good bit but he made it to 4 and my system is the old 2 dog classic 70 and he would'nt hit himself on 5 i only go passed 2 on my dogs if they are running off game. I've hit my lab on 5 for trying to cross the road in front of my house and he's got the idea after 3 times of being hit in 5 i don't think i'll need to get an invisible fence thanks to the my collars. I've never had any complaints on my old systen i bought it back in 2003 and it's worked great and had alot of abuse lost my remote in the woods spent two days looking for it and it stormed all of hte first day and found it in a puddle of water so i'm sure it's reliable enough for me.

Thanks for all of your comments. It looks like Tri Tronics telling me that they have had virtually no issues with the G2's is a major line of crap. Mine will get sent off tomorrow so they can check them out.

Funny thing is, after I found my dog, the half demolished receiver was still on....plenty of power. Tone worked but couldnt hear anything when actually shocking.. should have been able to hear it working a little bit.

Not to be rude, but to respond to the comment that Bernard made on here:

There is a road that is used frequently about 1/4 mile from the back edge of the soybean field our dogs were running in. Too close for comfort. After the race ended they were at the corner of the bean field and we started toning our dogs and calling them to get them working back to us. All the other dogs came in within 10 minutes. I toned mine and yelled for 30 minutes, they tried to bump her so I could figure out where she was so I could go through the beans and get her before she headed toward the road. After 30 minutes of bumping her and calling, nothing. At this point I am getting worried and started turning up the stimulation so I could at least get her to yelp and get over to wherever she was......

But later on I realized the collar was not hitting her and it was too late.

I will pass along the information that some have left on here about having trouble with the G2's when I speak to Tri Tronics again. I will give them this website so they can get some first hand consumer info about their product. I have never had any issues with them, and I know tons of people that had really good luck getting units fixed and sent right back to them with no questions asked. But once you lose one good dog, it leaves a sour taste.

Scott,

Did you ever get your collars fixed?

I'm thinking mine are doing the same. I'm going to test them on myself at several hundred yards this weekend first though. I'm curious.

I ordered a battery for one of my Beagler collars so my 3dog system Beagler will be on standby.

Kinda pisses me off but I've noticed sometimes my dogs don't seem to feel anything past 100 yards.

So your saying you have never had a dog at 250 yards away on a track the track break down and the dog hit a deer across a wide open feild and be 7-800 yards away before you confirm it is trash and shock it I know I have seen this scenerio happen a few times and have succesfully and unsuccesfully corrected my dog I really think it has to do with the signal being interupted by an outside source I have ran in hills before and was able to hit a dog driving a deer up over the side of a hill at 600 yards and 2 days later with a different dog same collar couldn't hit one at 150 yards across an open feild but when he went up a hill and I moved a few hundred feet he was at about 400 yards and it worked just fine I dunno I just have had some weird stuff with collars

I have just viewed 5 pages of "Trading Post Equipment Only" area on this site and not one used Dogtra set for sale. There were many used TT for sale along with one Sport Dog though. Why's that I wonder?

You don't suppose that has anything to do with the 10:1 ratio or so of Tritronic owners compared to Dogtra owners on this board do you? I have two Dogtra units that have been retired when I upgraded to Tritronics. I didn't bother sell them because the battery life after a couple years use was basically nothing. Not knocking Dogtra, I actually liked them when I was using them but they just didn't have the range or battery life of Tritronics now that I've had Tritronics I won't switch back unless Dogtra really improves their product.

I have a DT system that one collar quit after 3 months, and the second quit after 6 months. Light worked No Shockem Tonto! Talked to DT systems they informed me that they would have to charge me to fix them. They are still sitting on the Shelf, and I wasted $300 dollars, because they were not getting any more money!
Later I bought a extremely used Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker and they have already lasted longer than the DT system. My guess is the Worst Tri-Tronics unit is still better than the others.

just personal Experience here BUT if Dogtra had made a 6 dog unit in the 202 series i wouldnt have my TT My Dogtras are 5 years old and we still use them.........AND i can by batteries for them from batteries + and change em myself IF they ever GO BAD we use them training all our pups cause we can dial em in to set the range of shock.....and they have to vibrate warning mode just a GOOd SET OF COLLORS
So thats my experience with Dogtra i LIKE Em....

Here's my 2 cents....

I have a classic 70 G2 2 dog. Not an EXP. I had similar problems when I first got mine. I had read on here where everybody was using the short points and so thats what I was using at the time. Sometimes the collars worked, and sometimes it didn't. I switched to the long points, and I keep them tight. Not snug IMO. I don't have problems anymore.

That first dog that I used it on was my female. She has a small neck and fine hair. I've since gotten a male that has a neck like a draft horse. I use the short points on him with no problems, but I keep it tight.

I don't think the tightness effects their voices. I don't care if it does, I can still hear them and I know their safe.

I tried ALL the levels before I ever put them on a dog. I will not go over three with a beagle! If they don't yelp, then theres something wrong.

I don't know where some of you guys run, but I run in places where if my dogs go over a 1/4 mile away, their either gonna cross a road, or go onto posted property. I have to stay with the dogs. I have to see if there are threats like deer or fox etc, so I can get them off of it right away.

I don't mean to pee you off, losing you dog is bad enough, BUT. If the dog didn't respond at the "usual" setting, then maybe you should have started to run in its dirrection, instead of turning up the collar. In situations like that I'm always positioned between my dogs and a potential threat to their safety, ie a road.

Never had a problem with my TT. HATE my Dogtra. I will only use the Dogtra on my Labs cause they only need a reminder anyway. I could use dummy collars on them most the time. My beagles TT only!! I dont want to sell a system to somebody else that I cant rely on myself. I thought about selling it, but if somebody elses dog got killed because of the unreliablity, I would feel horrible.
