Re: Pups and box temperature?
i am sure there alot of ways to skin this cat but my vote would go to the lovett whelping nests. they are a bit expensive but i have 2 of them and they have worked great for me.
Re: Pups and box temperature?
Joeyman, I think Jeffers was the best price I could find at about 79 dollars for the large size. Check around on the net to find the best price. They are well worth it! They warm to 102 degrees which is the normal body temp for a dog.

Fellas
I also have 2 of the lovette whelping nests, 4 years ago I had 2 litters 1 day apart and with the pads and bulbs a nice box and alot of work trying to keep them warm I still lost 2 from 1 and 1 from the other litter. They got cold. wife was not happy, she went and bought 2 of the nests and I have not lost a pup since. It also takes alot of stress off the bitch. She doesnt have to work to keep them warm and is free to go in and out of the box without worry. Therefore she recovers from the litter alot faster. They are easy to clean and about bulletproof. No problems with either in 4 years and 8 litters.
Very happy with them, would recomend them to anyone.

Pups and heating pad temperature??
Got the Lectro kennel with thermostat on the pad and I really like it.
I have another without the thermostat and it works great as well.
Now my question is what is optimal temperature to set it at?? 85 degrees? The best temp for the pups and female?
Thanks much!!

Re: Pups and heating pad temperature?
Jim, I may be wrong, but I believe that 102 degrees is normal body temp for a healthy dog.

Bout 35 yr ago we had one them water beds, it was nice to crawl into a bed already 80f to warm your self.
I don't think puppies or the bitch would like or need it much warmer than that. jmho
If you've got the draft shut out, the heat from the bitch and the warm pad should keep the pups all in a pile and not scattered about the box.
