Re: What makes a ............
How much did Butkus sell for?
Re: What makes a ............
I agree! Really, when you compare purebred beagles, and the prices they bring, versus other hunting dog species,we get out cheap buying a broke hound for what we pay on average. Hell, people will pay that for mutts! I.e. Labradoodles, goldendoodles, etc, as puppies. I have mixed emotions about it but I feel the monetary value should be a little higher.Bradh wrote:Good for them I hope they get it maybe they will make back most of what they have invested in dogs to get one finished. You guys think this is crazy go look up some coon hounds and what the good ones sell for they are more then double or triple that. You can't take the money with you so why not spend it on something you love to do. Good luck to the seller and the buyer hope it works out for them both.
I say good luck to them also!
Re: What makes a ............
I say they are worth what someone is willing to pay... If someone has the cash to buy her and enjoys her then I say go for it. I am not in the position to pay 14k, but I won't say that I would not in the future if it was what I wanted. I have paid 30k plus for cars and trucks and I know I did not enjoy them as much as my hounds... My Uncle TURNED DOWN 50k, yes that is correct, 50k for a Grandnite Champion Male he raised and trained, somebody liked him. There are folks out there with that money and maybe looking for that hound.
Re: What makes a ............
An important question would be, can she improve my program more than any ten, five, or one thousand dollar dog? The answer would be partly in what she has produced for her current owner, any F.C's and I.F.C's out of her ? The current owner seems to be able to do without her in his breeding program. How may trials did it take her to finish. I remember a time not too long ago when there were half the trials held that are currently being held nowdays and with bigger entries and the good ones would finish in far less than ten trials. It seems some dogs today are simply finishing on good attendance. But in the final analysis , the question is , Is she worth 15 thousand dollars? She is if someone is willing to pay it, That is all anything is worth, what someone is willing to pay!

Re: What makes a ............
Before you bash the guy for selling it. know the facts. he isnt even the one who owns him, he listed the add for a friend. Its no secret by a simple search on google that she is owned by Eric Messier. This dog can flat out pound a rabbit. And yes her pups are taking traits from her, why else would he have bred her already? Ohios facts are mostly correct except i think it might even be more expensive than you estimated for canada. Its hard to finish, let alone finish IFC. for all the dogs guys buy for $1000 and complete crap, wouldnt you rather throw out the money all at once for something proven. He will gladly let you drive to his place and watch this dog run ANY day of the week, you WILL walk away impressed. it comes down to just 1 fact, a hound is worth what a guy will pay. And someone out there WILL buy this hound and improve their kennel.

Re: What makes a ............
14k? the thought of that just made me sick to my stomache lol.. I could buy a truck or pay off my bills for that...
but if he can get 14k then go for it!!
People buy decked out cell phones for 100k and a diamond Ipod sold for 288k so if they have the money whatever... I'm just sayin the price tag made my butt pucker..
but if he can get 14k then go for it!!

God isn't real, Beer is good and people are crazy, there I fixed it.
Re: What makes a ............
i thought going to all those trials was supposed to be fun, if you have a ifc are you going to quit going to trials? if so throw the money to attend trials out the window and so on and so forth. who ever buysw this dog will do it because the have the money and want it. if i could sell a dog for big money and still look the guy in the eyes i would do it.

Re: What makes a ............
Well for 14 k not only I would not hunt the dog anymore be worrie about something happen to the dog could not injoy rabbit hunting. But the dog would have to dress the rabbits when I bring them in and cook the rabbit.BUT on the other side.I would be surprise to see how many people would give a 1k for 8 week old pups because they think 14 k mom is the best of the best dogs out there cause of the money.I ve learn over the years of running a produce stand if you get to cheap on something people thinks there something wrong with it.Jack the price up.They will buy it quicker.Look at it this way.If I could get enuff people on here that wants a pup and pay a down payment.I would give 15 k for the dog.To me I would not give 10 dollors for a pup.JMO

Re: What makes a ............
It's mostly a matter of means imo and since most of us don't have the means to purchase a dog for that price it seems ridiculous to us. I agree that a dog, car, house or whatever is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I do have to say I would like to see her run though just so I can see what $14k dog looks like pounding the snot out of a free bunny!!
Seriously though, no offense intended because I like to hear about/see a really good dog no matter who owns it.

i couldnt agree more , rich people and their money has ruined alot of great things for alot of less fortunate people , seems everything you do there is somebody standing there waving their cash around , pushing the price tags up and pushing the average guy out , when compared to the other sports out there that involve dogs , running beagles and rabbit hunting has always been a blue color sport and always will be , i love the fact that people keep trying to drive up the prices , and sometimes it works , but on average it dont , i see alot of "high dollar" dogs on these boards being sold and after some time they always seem to come down in price , same way with pups , they start at $300 and end up being sold for far less . if someone out there wants to pay 14 grand for a dog , have at it , I would much rather buy a $13,800 truck and go have a blast with my $200 dog or knock a few years off my mortgage ! rabbit hunting will always be a poor mans sport ! now too answer the question of what makes a dog worth 14 grand , " Absolutely Nothing "jdwiley wrote:I agree!
