Re: Garmin DC-50
Mine is dropping out after 250 yards but for a few seconds or so.. I haven't tried it any farther. I think I may take it down the road and have someone hold it.
How do you tell if you have an old or new antenna?

Re: Garmin DC-50
Take the backplate off.then follow the antenna back to a rubber piece.lift it up and look at the screw.the wire should be braided and not solid

Re: Garmin DC-50
My buddy has a newest model 40 and an original one that he bought week after them came like your models most likely are Darren. His new one is flawless and works better then the 30s. The older model one I have lost at less that 10 yards lol. We took it coon hunting the one night and never picked up the dog the entire night until we were just about to leave the dog and it treed on the way to the tree about half mile from where we were it picked up when we were "near" ever since it still has had serious issues every time out.
If you want the 30s shoot me a call or text and will talk about it, but honestly on beagles they are just to bulky. I have it cinched down as far as I can with drilling my own holes and still barely fit my male. Only way roses will stay on is if I put it behind her shock collar. There a lot bigger then the 40s and suck in the brush also. Though I have never had them fail me so why I am switching I guess is convince. Guess will see if I regret it.

i am 100% sure mine have updates as well as upgraded antenna,i also have a updated handheld antenna as well as the long range antenna.it aint like i just got it.when i did just have it it worked great and i was praiseing them,i now think they are unreliable and suck
i hope everyone who has them loves them and they work forever without problems.mine suck.
i will run the 30 collar tied around their waste if it dont fit on neck.
we use the 30s on the coonhounds and i will get them to work on my beagles if i can find them.
pm me what ya want for them,i will link them up and test real quick
i think i am gonna take a antenna off and clean the contact point on one collar and then check against the other.seems they get cruddy there and that may be the problem

Re: Garmin DC-50
Ok, I looked at my antenna and its all rubber coated all the way to where the screw goes. Do I need to splice into it to see if its braided and will that hurt the performance of the unit??

Re: Garmin DC-50
I took the three apart last night.
The antenna screws were dirty and oxidized.I gave them a good cleaning and didn't make a difference.
Next I changed the update signal back to 5a second update and placed them on a work bench in the yard.I drove out to 890much yards before I lost signal quick when I pulled over came back on both collars and had a four bar signal on the meter.
the problem is the collar and when the dog is moving.if ya ever open one up and see the rest heap wires used as well as the poor circuit board you will realize they ain't as good as the 30s.
Frank name your price I want them no need to pm or email back and forth.you wanna get rid of them I will take them.tonite, tommorrow whenever I will come to you

Re: Garmin DC-50
Mo-i wouldn't spice anything.where the screw is the connection where the wire is is either braided or solid core.
Replacements are cheap and shipped in two days.

Re: Garmin DC-50
I also took the astro itself apart to check if the internal coax connector was loose, cracked etc.nothing
It could be that it has been hit with to much vhf signal even though it operates on the murs side of the bandwaves.
That's the difference of the 320bandwaves and the 220.
The 320dog has extra diodes to filter off that defect.that and the other extras but there has been a recognized 220 problem which the 320dog should not expirence

Re: Garmin DC-50
my antenna is solid... its is all metal where it goes into the piece where it turns round to fit the screw on. I'm gonna post a pic tonight thanks for the help. I am gonna order a new antenna anyways. I had a nerve wracking deer chase the other day.
Ps, I'm an idiot and didnt update the collars just had them loaded on the 320
gonna do some testing tonight
what is an average that you should expect out of a unit. I know I'm never gonna get 13 miles but can i get say 5 on average ground??

Re: Garmin DC-50
I got when new about 1.8 miles.when I put the long range antenna on I got 4.2.now that was with the collars hung in a tree and me driving away from them.
When they have been on the dogs I never had further than 980.
It depends on the terrain.they are nowhere as good as garmin claims

Re: Garmin DC-50
i got 4.2mi with the long range antenna driving up and down hills but it was in and out and when i got 4.2 i was literally on top of the mountain. I didn't cut out until 1.3 miles with the short range antenna but once it did it never came back till I put the long antenna on it and then it came and went every few minutes.
still I can live with two miles...
