I feed the Diamond in the Green Bag it has 26% protein it comes in a 50 pound bag at $24.00 a bag it has your Omeg 3and 6 they don t have the loose stools like with the High energy in the purple bag ,I mix it with the diamond maintance in the summer ,then strait back to the green bag in the colder months but thats just me, Kettle Creek Ranger 10 years old and still likes to get out and run North Town Frosty and Durbin Valley Kiss

I feed the Diamond Lamb & Rice & have had real good results. Been feddin it for prob 5 yrs,. It's the best quality food I have found in my area.
I'm feedin the Diamond Small Breed Puppy to my pups right now- they love it!

Hi Everyone, This stuff of finding the best food for your hound can be a job if we as beaglers let it. I have always tried to get quality food for my hound. I have tried blue buffalo, Diamode, iams, Native. I found Native works the best for my hound but, the price for native food is $40.00 a bag for 40lbs. I'v been feeding Native to my hound for a year now but finding out that their are cheeper brands that are just as good. So that said I just might make a change if Native continues to stay at $40.00 a bag. Thanks. Jim Harrison { Couch Potato Beagles }

i use to feed a dog food called prism 26-18 this was when i lived in the UP . it used beef chicken and fish for protien all of them . loved this feed moved back to LP and couldnt find it. iam feeding a new sports mix feed called stamina 27-15 to my coon hounds and dogs. iam not runin hard getting a good price to 19 $ a 50 pound bag seems to be good food . it comes in a green bag. but still feed extreme athlete to dogs iam poundin.

It is made by Diamond for Costco and is less than 1$ per lb. It appears to be better than the Naturals and similar to Blue Buffalo, a friend has been using it and likes it real well. I've tried about everything except this and always seem to come back to Naturals now, Premium before Naturals. If I liked the quality I did not like the price, if the price was right the quality did not impress me. I just may have to make the trip and get some of this and see how it works.

I've been feeding Diamond Extreme Athlete for sometime now. I have tried almost everything and this seems to be the best for my dogs. Extreme Athlete is a Chicken and Rice formula. It is a 32%protein 25%fat I believe. Very little waste.

guys thanks for the info on your experience and feeds, steve w i have a costco near me and will also take a look at that too. i want to feed the best feed i can get at the best price i can get. with being very particular about what i feed ( a dog dont stay on the feed bill unless their worth feeding ) if they earned a spot they should get the best feed i can give them

the reason you see less stole with the blue and taste of the wild is it is meat based and they digest more of the food. any that has corn in the top 5 or 6 ingredients has a lot of fillers and the corn can not be digested just passed as waste

thats understood, which is why i switched from purina to begin with and tried others. diamond naturals has no corn, but does have rice, so wondering if those carbs are the reason for so much stool. i just didnt think that the rice additive would bring about so much stool. i guess it could.

one of the guys that hunt with me is a vet and he says that the rice can do the same thing as corn if it is with in the first 5 or 6 ingredients. he also said it may have several different types of rice as well which is just filler to make the dog feel full for longer.

Many of the cheaper foods mentioned in this thread are very low in calories per cup and therefore, not a cheap to feed as they seem. The Diamond Chicken, Lamb, or Beef and rice are in the low to mid three hundred calories per cup range. Diamond Extreme Athlete has 470 calories per cup, roughly 30 some % more calories but isn't 30% more expensive a much better value, not to mention less poop to deal with.

I used Diamond for a long time but switched to Victor and wish I would have done it long before I did. About the same amount of money but it has three meats in it and no beet pulp.

Ruxton, I am a little embarrassed to say that I have never even considered looking at the caloric content of any feed I've ever bought. I always look at the ingredients first, cost second and then make a decision based on that along with the protein and fat content of the food. After that it's all about how the dogs do on it.

I thought I would try to get information on the calorie #s of both Diamond Naturals chicken and rice 26/16 and the Victor chicken,rice and lamb meal 22/12.
Here's what they show
Diamond- Calories: 3,708 kcal/kg (368 kcal/cup) Calculated ME

Victor- Calorie Content: 3,516 kcal/kg (406 kcal/cup) Calculated ME

I'm not sure how they convert kcal/kg to kcal/cup. Looking at the numbers, the Diamond's 3,708 kcal/kg should convert to a larger # than 368 kcal/kg , if Victor's 3,516 kcal/kg converts to 406 kcal/cup. Am I missing something here ?

Well guys, it's gone a little past my understanding now, I was also a ingredient guy and price second as long as dogs did well. Wireman turned it up a notch which has me interested. Anybody a nutritionist here????

I say feed what you can afford to feed and keep your dogs healthy.,,,,, I have chose the Diamond Naturals because it works for my hounds and is made with , what I consider , to be good ingredients. But it's usually trial and error to find what works for each man and his hounds. I'm sure you will do what's right for your dogs. Good luck in your food quest.
