The only size I care about is the size of their heart.

I keep 13" females. I like everything about the little females better except mouth. Nothing beat's a big 15" male mouth. My little girls hunt harder, pack better, get through the fences, brush piles, briars better, eat less food, require less meds, fit more in a smaller box/kennel, easier to pick up, etc

If I only ran hare in the big swamps a pretty strong case could be made for 15" dogs. I think the big ones are less vulnerable to coyote.

I have 2 15 inch males and a female pup that is TBD, however she is 13 inches at 4.5 months so she's going to be big. They are absolute tanks. Weighed them the other day, 32 pounds that hate a rabbit.

I just like rabbit dogs that can "FIND AND PUSH" a rabbit but I guess if I had to choose I would perfer a big 15" male or female.

My little dogs did a 12 hour run one day then a 10 hour the very next so I dissagree with the fact they cant keep up.I dont need to run any longer than that so that suited me just fine their a little under 13 matter fact
God made dogs....Then he made BEAGLES!

It's not the size of the hound in the fight, but the size of the fight in the hound, that comes first.
From there, you can regulate size that suits your need and preference, for the country you hunt. Surely no one would want a size that doesn't give the best sport the majority of time, for the animal and the environment they hunt. As John said, deep water, snow and gully come to mind for + size... and - size, for mass dense undergrowth,... size is the easiest to sort through, it is the unseen hunting qualities that must get the majority of your attention too first level out your pack as hunters... ;)

It's in the heart not the lenght of the leg IMHO.

I have seen several out of IFC GREEN BAY BUTKUS that could take it to the big dogs and do it right and if one of the big
competitive race horse type hounds decides to pick his head up and get the front.... BAM the rabbit turns and the big
dog just gets his throat cut :blackeye:  I have seen it time and time again. as the mater of fact. it has changed
the face of my kennel and I thought I had the best I've ever seen run. I guess if you can't beat um join um
