Most famous dog of all time

Re: Most famous dog of all time
I asked Branko who was the best dog that he ever had...he said it was definitely Ali-Baba...I spoke to other knowledgeable beaglers and they said the best dog they ever saw was Ali-Baba.

If you look back on so many of the major lines of dogs they go back to Mt Zion Pete. I can't think of any dog that has had more impact on so many lines. If you look at dogs in the last 20 years it's hard to beat Run Em Over Tanks trial record.

Re: Most famous dog of all time
Shorts Pro. Dingus, Spur would all be in top runnings. A couple of the bluecap hounds for sure would be up there. Gay line is one of the most popular nationwide.
Not saying these are the best hounds of all time, just that these are some of the most popular. Alot of money went into advetising these hounds to make it that way. Few hounds in our times will become popular on reputation alone. That is why so many people hate registered hounds. They are over advertised and under performed in a lot of peoples minds. My opinion is that the registered hounds lay a path to follow!
Gotta give props to zion pete, kingwood shorty, trimmer and i know I am leaven some great ones out. Just remember that they are hounds... they have goods and bads. Back in the day of old (so I have heard from talking to people from the ages past) that no hound was promoted like dingus. They say he was talked and printed up all around and could back it up.
Uno is famous
the hounds in Uno's past are well known in the who world. Swan Lakes and Bedlams are some of the top lines.
One day if I have a chance to make it to heaven then perhaps I will run with some of these hounds and smile ear to ear.

I doubt there is a serious Trialer nor many hunters who have registered dogs, who have never heard of Linesman.

Re: Most famous dog of all time
Okay, he did specify Beagle, no matter the format or reason for fame...and then after that I guess I quit reading, too. I didn't catch "trialing" the first go 'round.
Most famous - Uno, without a doubt. The globe now knows what adorable dogs Beagles are thanks to Uno and the smart judge who put the win on him at Westminster. Most famous Beagle in Trialing? That narrows the audience down to the most famous amongst us trialers then.
When I think of famous, I think of "household name", not necessarily "most valuable player" qualities...such as FCs produced, titles won, etc. So if we are to pick a dog that just about any trialer or gun hunter who keeps an eye on bloodlines has heard of, I'm going to have to co-sign with MasonsBeagles on Warfield Red. Mistaken as most were about Red, even before I got into trialing, I would call about a dog and it if happened to be a red one, they called it a Warfield Red. If I had a red dog, others commented about my Warfield Red.
I think "Warfield Red" rolls off the tongue easily, and it's like a soda in the south. No matter what kind of can or bottle it comes in, it's a Coke. Not many of us are into chickens, but I know what a Rhode Island Red is, LOL. It's any red chicken.
