I've seen the side zipper boots. I tried a pair on a few days ago. 80 bucks. But I can't remember the name brand. I liked them they were easy to take on and off with the side zipper. It had good support but not like a lace up boot. I may have to buy some wool knee socks so the top part of the boot doesn't rub up against my leg. They were rubber so I don't think water will get in ....I can't remember what kind of insulation it had but it was insulated.

Nobody has mentioned Rockys. I have a pair of Rocky Guide, leather from the ankle up, rubber from the ankle down, 400g Thinsulate, lace up, look rough as can be, a treatment of Camp Dry every year and they are good to go, never leaked in 10 years. I hunt from 0 degrees up, after it gets over 50 degrees I just wear a pair of Nike hikers with Gore-Tex.

You are not far from litchfield Illinois. Go to Rural King and get a pair of Northerner 3 hole insulated rubber boots. Very light. With thin wool socks good for cool weather. With heavy wool socks, good for very cold weather. These are what I wear rabbit hunting in Illinois and missouri.
And they are made in the USA.

I wear these and when the stitching gave out on the first pair Irish Setter replaced them with a new pair. Can't beat that.
good luck finding what you like, Hunter

I love my Muck boots, but not when it gets too warm. Above 50 with sun shining down they get a little warm, but my feet do not get cold. I like Rocky boots for warmer weather hunting. 200 gram thinsulate is all I like in them though. Works good for me to have 2 pair of waterproof boots for different temps.

I just bought a pair of Bogs from Nightlite (Blaze minus 50) so far i really like them. They are extreamly liteweight and comfortable. They are like the Muck boot.
