Usually just grab a handful out of the box. Probably something like 8 - 10 shells. However, I hardly ever shoot that many times.

From what I'm reading you guys only need 1 or 2 boxes a year. Well I'm not nearly as good of shot as you guys. I always take 2-3 boxes a trip. Most of my kills require at least 3 shots. The first shot clears the brush away the second cuts a path and the last is the connecting shot.
At the start of each season I buy a case of low brass #6 in 12ga., a 1/2 case of high and low brass # 6 in 20ga. This year due to a shoulder injury, I'm trying a 28ga. All of my buddies hate to see me sportin that short barreled barretta, they know it's lethal. Thats why I need a full case for the 12.

If I'm hunting with the .410 single shot - 7 or 8 shells are plenty. If I'm carrying the 20 gauge semi-auto I might shoot that many times at one rabbit. I 'll likely take the whole box on those days.

Shot gun shells? I hunt with a single shot, iron site .22. LOL, NOT. I load my pockets down. its not really needed here in SWVa but you never know. Not just one type of shells, oh no, all of my left side pockets are #6 shot, but my right side is buckshot. We have alot more deer than rabbits.
Really, both me and my dad hunt with side by sides. He cant carry much weight for any time so I try to carry enough shells so when he says hes out. I always have plenty of extras.

I usually carry 3 or 4, #4, .410 shells for my contender. I don't have anything to prove by shooting a bunch of cottontails or hares. Besides in some areas, you could really hurt your furture running. Actually I'm kinda superstitious, if we can't get a rabbit up, I usually blame having to many or not enough shells. I always carry a box in the truck, and probably only go through 3/4 of a box per year. But if we get to a spot that I know we won't be returning to, during the season, I'm usually hiking back to the truck, or on the radio asking for extra shells
Never shot a limit, but shot a limit of shells. Paul
