Lost Dog... NOW FOUND!!!

Try keeping food out for her and a crate (large). Maybe she will take shelter in the crate and get used to you. Must be frustrating. Carolyn

Frustrating isn't even the word for it. Drives me nuts, just when I give up, then she shows up again. Now I'm concerned because even if I catch her, I will be paranoid ever time I ever let her out that she may not come back. If I manage to catch her, she definitely won't be allowed out of the kennel off a rope for the entire summer. I've been trying your kennel trick. Right now my best hope is that she will step into my havahart box trap. Something ate all the dog food out of one of the dishes where I set it out last night. I moved the trap to that location and put some canned food inside the trap. Everybody keep their fingers crossed for me.

Huntinfool, Be patient with her b/c she is probably scared half to death. She is in a strange place with a new owner. When you do catch her give her lots of attention and petting and she will get used to you.

Have you considered contacting the guy you bought this dog from? I would offer to pay his way to come to your place.

I purchased a beagle a couple years ago. Very gentle, well mannered beagle. After owning him a week, kids let him loose while I was gone judging a trial. When I got home that night I spotted the dog uptown at the gas station. I tried to call him and he took off through the nearby hay field. 1 week later after numerous attempts to catch I eventually dispatched the dog in fear he could harm a child or something and he had my name plate on him.........Autopsy revealed he previously had parvo.....vet said if they survive parvo it can really mess up their brain...surely dont know enough about your situation, but something to consider. Anyone else had a dog that survived parvo? Any side affects?

........sorry man, but thats funny. Ive had PLENTY of dogs survive parvo over the years. Its an intestinal virus........and never had them effected permenently by it, well at least not that I was aware of. Truth is some dogs take a while to adjust and just dont act like themselves for sometime till they settle in. This may take a month or two depending on the dog. I bet after this dog gets caught up.......and it will eventually, within a month or two you'll never be able to tell anything like this happened.

I guess I should qualify that a little........when I say its funny I mean its funny that a vet would suggest a dog that has had parvo will not be right in the head afterward..........not that you had to pop your dog cause you couldnt catch him.

I thought it was odd, but I did talk to a coonhunter who's dog survived parvo and said his dog never hunted again, just lagged around like he was out of it?

That could possibly be because of some sort of stroke or something from the fever that parvo brings on.......dogs usually run a nasty temperature with it. Ive only ever seen two adult dogs come down with full blown parvo and both survived with no troubles afterward. Seen lots of pups live thru it and they turned out fine........seen a bunch more that never made though.

I have two that survived parvo that are going to be six years old in June and they seem fine to me. We lost 5 out of 7 in that litter. The one had it bad and I figured he'd never make it but he did.I think colodial silver may have helped. The other one had not nearly as severe case or that colodial silver treatment worked better for him. Anyway after talking to my vet about after effects nothing about messing up brain came up.

I caught her this morning in one of my "homemade box traps" She was bound and determined to get out too, another 2 hours and she would have gotten out, she was tearing up welded wire fence. Fortunately a neighbor saw her in the trap and got ahold of my wife while I was at work. Strangest thing about is, now that she's in my basement, she acts as though I've owned her for years, she was following me all over. My wife had her out on a rope, and she followed me back into the basement. She's not in too bad of shape for 3 weeks on the run. Her front feet are pink and raw everywhere except on the pads, and two of her nipples are swollen and nasty from irritation. She's pretty skinny, I don't think she would have lasted too much longer, maybe a week or so. Thank everyone for all of the advice, every bit of it was of help. Those of you who preached patience hit the nail on the head. Thank You.

Good to hear you got her back. I wrote a couple of posts ago that she would eventually be caught up and within a month or so would act fine and you'll never be able to tell anything like this ever happened. How the dog acted was actually very common believe it or not and whats really interesting is that people sometimes act the same way. There are plenty of documented cases of someone being lost in the woods for days and when the rescue/search party finally finds them they are surprised or shocked that the lost individual was actually trying to stay hidden or even get away from the search party. Strange as it sounds..........it happens.

Glad to hear you finally got her back.What did you put in the trap to lure her in? Like I said previously we used good ol' stinking sardines. Go figure!

Sardines next to the trap, and a raw chicken leg in it. I was catching too many opossums with the sardines in the trap.
