Maybe it depends on the pup. I was faced with the same thing this past weekend. My older female was in heat so I took a 11 month old pup instead. Now this pup has been running both with a pack and soloed since she was 3.5 months old. She is very independant and knows how to run a rabbit. Well, she won her cast in the morning and went back and won the winners pack. It was 85 degrees and very dry. Maybe an exception to the rule?
