dryness in the puppy tails and face

Post by mn_beagleboy »

I have 2 pups that have some skin problems. One's tail is look to be very dry and half of the tail has no hair. One of my male pup has a sore or some kind of herpes on top of his nose. This has never happend to any of my pups before. What do you guys think? Is it possible mange?

It is most possibly mange. The first signs are patchy hair loss with scaley apperance (possibly pustules) around face, ears, and neck area. It mostly effects the extremities first (tail, head, feet, etc).
You should probably try giving an oral dose of Ivermectin at 1/10 cc per 10 lbs of body weight. You can do a Sub Q injecting at the same rate, but it stings BADLY when injected, but does go to work a bit quicker.
The only sure way to be sure if it is mange, is to do a skin scrapping and examine it under a microscope.

Good luck!
