Sometimes it is hard to tell even up to the last couple of weeks depending on the number of pups. But usually I can tell about the 5th week into pregnancy. Most of the time it is hard to tell before this. Takes about 9 weeks to get pups. About the 7 week they will start to make tracks in the breast area. Feel down the belly and you will feel a line on both sides where the row of tits are. Female parts are swollen up like she is in heat.

Hope this helps a bit.

One of the first signs I've noticed at about the halfway mark, is the hair around the tits begins to fall out or get very thin.

Hi Bev,, Our 8 month old female pup seems to be going into heat, or at least my male pup thinks so!!! He has gotten very aggresive with her the last week. Is it possible this early that she'd be in heat?? Do we need to keep them apart, I mean shes to young right?? Thanks in advance...

Crewchf, that is right about the time the first heat should start (on average)... about 9 months. I would seperate them. Swelling is a good thing to look for, she would be a lot bigger than normal. Remember the 7,7,7 rule. 7 days pre, 7 days in and 7 days out.

Better separate them or you will be having pups in a couple of month.

My 6 month old pup is coming into heat right now. The smaller the hound the earlier the heat usually but nothing is written in stone.
