Flapping noise in neck

Post by Wes11 »

I have a 6 month old beagle and she makes a flapping noise in her neck when she runs. It dosent seem to affect her breathing or energy. I can pick her up and she sounds clear as a bell. I only hear it when she runs. Would anyone know the cause of this.

I had a female once that did this same thing.Didn't seem to affect her abilities in any way.Don't know what causes it though. Good luck, CHH

One common cause of upper respiratory stridor(the type of noise it sounds as if you are describing) in the beagle is an elongated soft palate. The soft palate is the roof of the mouth. It can occassionally be longer than normal in some dogs and horses(and I assume other mammals) and it will interfere with the air flow through the larnyx. Most dogs this is no big issue at all. It can cause over-heating in some animals though. There is a surgery to correct this problem if the need should arise. Of course that may not be it at all  , but kinda sounds like it.
