Would running by myself make it possible for me to be nice to everyone all the time? Probably not. Thanks for your tolerance and being kinder than me. That is definitely a trait of all my friends (or at least those that can stand me).
Too much mouth and not enough brains is definitely my biggest fault. But it seems like solo time doesn't help.

I have some hounds here that are going on 2 and 3 years old that have NEVER been soloed a day in their life that are leading my pack of 6-8 hounds. Would soloing in your opinions make them any better now at their age, or are they already set in their ways?

My humble opinion is that soloing a dog will allow you to get an honest evaluation of what you have. I believe dogs only run in a pack tend to gamble a lot more than dogs run with soling as well because other dogs clean up all the messes they make. If you take each dog out solo every once in awhile I think it forces them to clean up their running style a little or they'll be in as many checks as good runs....a lot of dogs looks like champs in a pack and can hardly keep a rabbit going by themselves. That being said if you're happy with your pack there's no need to change.
I am not sure if this thread was started as a joke or not but I will throw my 2 cents in, I say you are fooling yourself if you think soloing does no good ! Run those 7 -8 dog packs till they drop

I see many of them types of hounds that wont even leave ur feet,as they dont have the team. I also also seen many that as soon as they fall in a check they just leave too look for another rabbit. Last but not least alot of pack dogs just cant circle a rabbit for hours solo
I guess one will never no if they dont cut a dog lose by them self.
I like to solo and if the race is going good I start droping more in one at a time. I like to think the race will pick up 10 percent with every dog that is throw in the pack. If all the sudden you put a dog down and the race goes to crap. Than I will pull that one back out.
Their are legitimate reasons for soloing a hound. It appears that a lot of folks do consider it a cure-all, which it isn't . The two best reasons for soloing hounds are to build confidence in a hound that is lacking and just because you like to do it! I have never seen a hound look good in a pack that was not good solo, but a lot of folks are fooled by hounds when they are run in a pack, some of these folks are judges. These faulty hounds will make the same mistakes when ran in a pack, actually the mistake will generally be magnified and therefore should be easier to notice. I know quite a few folks that can do a darn good job of evaluating a hound solo who are a disaster when trying to evaluate a pack. It is a fact that some folks simply can't judge a pack of hounds, as I have said some of these folks are judges and they realize this and you will see them eliminating hounds very quickly this is to get down to their comfort level of 2 or 3 hounds.
I solo just to see if they can, not to improve anything. Sometimes I enjoy watching/listening to one dog circle rabbits. Food is too expensive to keep half dogs. If they won't get into the brush and hunt or can't circle a rabbit after it is up, why waste the money.
That being said if you're happy with your pack there's no need to change.
