A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I'm just trying to understand what would be the thinking of anyone shooting a dog running game and harming nothing.
TRASH plain and Simple Just TRASH

Sorry bout what has happened....hope ur dogs r ok and u and ur family too since u were all present when this happened....try hold it together....got a good buddy that tells me all the time Good things come to those who wait....he tells me this because I react off of instinct instead of thinking things through....keep that in mind before retaliating...good luck with the outcome
Man,I hope she pulls through 100%! Glad to hear you got both hounds back!
My best female was killed late last summer, by people who were trespassing when they shot her. Bad thing was, I couldn't get there fast enough to catch 'em. Don't know who it was,and didn't find her for 2 weeks. I don't know what the hell is wrong with people any more! It has me stressing out more, just running hounds !
Well Lucy got to come home tonight. She acts fine but she does a few buckshot souvenirs in her head. The vet says these dogs are a miracle, they both are lucky to be alive. Man, it is crazy how tuff a beagle really is.
I got to spend a little time with Belle and she is in bad shape. The vet said to not give up hope though because she is a lot better toady than she was yesterday. They got her to eat and wag her tell, but she still isn't wanting to get up and wants to lay to that one side. He said she is just shook up and her balance is off and we are hoping for the best.
But on a good note, thanks for all of your concerns. This really shows there are some real good people out there. So of you I know and some of you I don't but we all have the same thing in common, we love the sport of rabbit dogs.

i could think of alot of things to do that they couldnt prove to.the guy that shot your dogs would never shoot any ones dog again and be paying that vet bill and then some when i got done.mfers
Sorry to hear about your dogs...I can't even imagine what someone could possibly be thinking when pulling up on a beagle and squeezing that trigger....It would be one thing for a wild dog chasing livestock but not a beagle doing what it does best....I feel your pain as I lost my first and only beagle about two months ago. her name was Leto ..She was just over a year old and was running in a pack of 4 and was last in line...car hit her and never stopped...I can't stop thinking about her and wish I could find the person that did it.
Stevo, Scot is a good friend of mine. He's not a member on this board, so he wanted me to give you his phone #. I pm'ed it to you.
Like I posted earlier, I lost one the same way. You can speculate all day long why someone did this, but at the end of the day, only they can say why. I feel your pain, but it's not really fair to put the blame on another beagler. I know the spot you're talking about. He was there a few weeks ago and said there was hound tracks in the snow, and human tracks with them. Could have been another group in there as well! Who knows! I would take it up with the landowner anyway!
This is such a sad, tragic story with the worst being that minus any definitive proof of who shot the dogs there will be NO closure of it. The times I have been involved in similiar situations the shooters admitted to it. I'm hoping and praying that both dogs make a full recovery and minus that there may be no light at the end of this. I'd also be concerned if this other area had ANY livestock at all on it or no treaspassing signs. Both of these things had an impact on the two situations I was personally involved with here in this state.
Wishing your dogs and family a speedy recovery it's sad to have your little one have to go through something like that. I could only imagine my little boy loves to go with me.
