Re: How's The New Measuring System Goin In Lil Pack
iv been measured out and in at the same hunt same guy, i sent that dog down the rd,he was boarder line, but in a natural stance he was well under, i have 3 that should never measure out but you never know till you get under the stand because all the human error. im going to buy cards they can look at my dogs and tell they wont measure out but ill do this to take some of the chance of not getting under an inspecters stand that doesnt know how to measure.i just wish the cards was more than a skip card, thats why i say to have very knowladgable ppl that knows how to measure do it every so often and make the cards indestputable.i am sorry if i over stayed my welcome but i was only responding to ppl who had posted things that i knew was going on and i new was true,in no way crying about it i can trade dogs and get dogs that are under, thats never been my point, my point has always been that in order to feel safe traveling to far off clubs and not get measured out when i know their all under is that there needs to be hands on training to these inspecters or have ppl who can do it have measuring days in defrant districts every once in a while. further more iv not said to take this rule away all ive been saying is to make sure its done right and concestant,iv said my piece the others can take my place that feels the same way as i do about this and hopefully smarta@@es does start running their mouth on them!!!

I don't trial much anymore but the card seems kinda senseless to me. I think the reason people wants some kind of measuring system is because the problem with calling dogs out at post is when you call a dog out and that owner is a judge you can forget about winning if they judge you later, I say measure every dog at stake in front of everyone in cast in first round. If they make it under 15 then they should be good the rest of the hunt and you have 4 other witnesses that see the dog measured in and that should be good enough. That way if you have a tall dog you know its gonna get measured and it takes pressure off of others in cast that worry about being judged fair if they call a dog out.

First two guys measuring one guy holding dog and one using stand. On a board on a flat surface. If you want a permanent measure, then you should have to get a state rep to after they have all been trained the same and they can give out a card that can not be disputed.

We let the handler set the dog. We only measured it..When you give a card that cannot be disputed what is to keep the owner from getting one dog measured and putting the card on a big dog and bring him to stake to run in hunt..I think someone from NKC done their homework on this system I think it will stop big dogs...My dog is 14 3/4 he is Offically measured..I am going to world hunt and would not be afraid to go without my card and let him be measured.

Sunrise I agree to a point, but should their not be a class or an official person measuring. For instance say a breed inspector that does not have a clue of course their are none out there, and he officailly measures a 16"dog in and 85% or even higher will not call out at stake are we not right back where we were? I personally do not care if I run against walker dogs, but I do not want to be measured out because of lack of knowlege. If NkC is going to have State Reps then they should utilize them, even if they are only over seeing breed inspectors.

they did their home work? what about all the dogs getting the same papers thrown from dog to dog to avoid paying 18.00 and dogs that makes champs being reregisterd as an open, thats the same thing. put the name of the dog on the card then they will have to transfer the papers as well as the card, witch im sure the name of the dog is on the card anyhow!! so to answer your quiestion if the inspecter checks the card against the dogs papers and they match, if the dogs contested at the stake thier caught plain and simple!SUNRISE10 wrote:We let the handler set the dog. Part of every AKC Judging seminar is a session on measuring. When I attended one many years ago, George Pirman spent a lot of time making sure that everyone understood how to properly measure dogs. We had two different dogs and everyone measured each several times. By the time we finished everyone that attended consistantly got measurements within 1\4 inch. I have measured a lot of dogs since and what George taught us that weekend was extremely valuable.
Now, if I go to a LP hunt, anyone who sent in a piece of paper to NKC is "qualified" to give an "official" measurement on my dog. That just is not reasonable.
Having said this though, my problem is not with measuring dogs. My problem is how LP has changed from being run by the people to being told how it will be done by a few at the top. Now, I admit, I have a slight authority problem (or at least a few of my bosses thought so) but I wish decisions were made using the knowledge and experience of all of the people who care enough to try to make ARHA better.

i do agree about the state reps being the one measuring for the card. you could also make it where the dog was measured say like five times from three different clubs he would automatically be able to get a card. of course we wouldn't forget the organization's eight dollars. we have already had dogs measure and run and win hunts and at the next hunt measure out. this will be a on going thing. i know its stopped me from taking as many dogs just because i don't want to have to measure them all the time.
let honesty run through the veins of each and every judge at each and every trial at each and
every format.
every format.
Re: How's The New Measuring System Goin In Lil Pack
i keep 5 to 6 dogs tops most being males and 1 female all my dogs are 14.5 to 14.75 including the bitch and thats what i like i want big dogs i will not own 13 13.5 inch dogs im not saying there not good dogs but they are not big enough to stay with big dogs all day,but i know that somebody that don't know what there doing can measure my dogs out any day at any hunt if this did happen i like little pack but good dogs are hard to come by so i would have to say that i would probally find a new format to run.guess what im trying to say is im not changing what i like to make anybody else happy just because they don't know crap about measuring a dog.i think they should get certain breed inspectors ones that have a good honest name and ones that know how to measure a dog to do the measuring for the cards and once these special breed inspectors have measured the dog of the requried age to be sure he is done growin say 15 to 16 months old then they put the permittedly messured and can never be called out or measured again then the cards will be worth the 8 bucks till then i'm standin in line i aint givin another dollar to um,maybe these special imspectors can even go to a measurin class kinda like JCM was sayin he attended,oh and by the way before i get called out for crying i promice you i'm not if i get measured out 2 or 3 times you won't here me say a word i will find somewere else to run my dogs i like runnin dogs nomatter if it's competition or pleasure runnin and when rabbit season is in i'm out rabbit huntin and not at trials anyway......charles.......PUCKETT'S RIDGE SQUALLIN KENNEL

Re: How's The New Measuring System Goin In Lil Pack
Just a thought as I read through this measuring issue, do you suppose the Westminister dog show ever has a beagle measure out of the 13 or 15 inch class? Has anyone ever heard of a single complaint as these folks are competeing for some serious recognition? Why do you all suppose this is the most prestigious event in ther world? Do you suppose it is RULES and an objective means to assure they are strictly followed by all? My next thought is that if the beagle breed standard is that 15" is the maximum then should one above that height be entered and above would it have it's registration pulled from AKC for NOT meeting the breed standard of a beagle?

Hey I have more food for thouhgt!!.
What if the people who bring oversize dogs to the trials pay extra to run them and the extra money was divided up amongst the winners pack and paid according to the place your hound took. I for one have run 12 inch hounds against 15 + inch hounds and have won and lost both a little extra loot never hurt anyone. Plus I've seen some smaller dogs tear up some ifc's that run the 15 inch class. Maybe we could call the class the open fear factor class.

i don't think the main complaimt is people bringin over sized dogs,it's the different sizes that they are measureing the same dog from one week to the next i don't agree with people bringing over 15 inch dogs but if u have a dog measured 143/8 one week then 143/4 the next then 15 then i would say theres a problem there....and i'm also not saying that a 13 inch dog can't beet a 15 inch dog in a one hour cast, but u tack them out to the coal mines and run them for 5-6-7 hours and i can tell u were your 13 inch dog gonna be.thats why ACK has 13 inch and 15 inch classes,if u got a pack of 13 inch dogs they probally run a cleaner rabbit then my pack of 15 inch males but i like um up front sometimes they butt heads a little but they still bring the rabbit to the gun.and they stay on the front end all day long without tireing out and fallen back...........charles..
