Kill them or just don't run there anymore if they are killing dogs at night it wont be long and they will do it during the day time. Once they learn dogs can be food or a threat you got a problem.

About 3 wks ago at about 1:00 in the afternoon I turned my dogs at a place I hardly run. A few minutes went by and they were in the brush hunting and from a field across the fence I saw a big yellow yote come bouncing stiff legged. At first It sounded like a dog barking ? I never heard that before or at least if I had I thought it was a dog barking. All of the sudden he cut loose with the usuall yote howel when the dogs ignored him. He was no doubt claiming his territory. I froze and he started sneaking on my dogs like he was stalking them. When he dissapeared behind a tree I drew my pistol , which is all I had with me (22). He completly forgot about as his mind was on my dogs. Luckily for me and my dogs when he got fairly close I shot and he did an about face and took off. It looked like I hit him but couldnt find any blood. I walked towards where I saw him last and soon a young male dog turned his hair backwards on his back and I found him laying there dead. I got a pic on my phone but I dont know how to put it on here....lol Heck it took me a half an hour to type this. :)

I lost two beagle pups, 6 months old, to coyotes last spring. The first one was running a rabbit with two other pups about two hundred yards from my house. I heard the pup whine then silence. The other two pups started barking at something and then came to the house. About two weeks later I had four running across the road from my house. One came home and was barking upset, then I heard another but I couldn't distinguish if it was running or what. It never came home. A couple months back after the leaves had fallen, I found her skull and collar.

i dont know about there in the south because of the dry conditions but when i run hare in mi at nite i use whisle bottle rockets when the dogs are running i aim them over were my dogs are and shoot them off every once in a while and for certain when i here yotes . i aint had an issue and i think it keeps the wolves away in the up. ive heard yotes and shot of a couple and there gone and i dont here any more. it works for me it dont bother the rabbits or my beagles they just keep runing . i told dale larson about this he tried it when he went to UP and said it worked great. maybe it will work for you. just a thought. i lost two beagles to wolves about 7rs ago thats why i started use ing the rockets made sense to me it would scare them off so far so good. :camo:
I will not follow where the path may lead; but I will go where there is no path, and leave a trail. LORD HELP ME BE THE PERSON MY DOG THINKS I,AM!!!

I've always run bells on my beagles.I have a brother -in-law in the N.H. Fish and Game and he said they recomend putting bells on sheep to keep the coyotes from grabbing them. They feel that the bells have an unnerving effect on the yotes.
I run the bells basically to help me keep track of the hounds in thick cover and when running at night. They may discourage some coyotes but,I have had two beagles attacked by coyotes while wearing bells in the daytime.
Another time of the year to be very wary of the coyotes being very aggressive to your hounds is in the spring when they have pups in the den. That is when both of my dogs got attacked and they were both running around a fairly close den site that I found later.
