Little pack judges Question

The jump occurs when the rabbit is flushed from it's set up(bed). This can only occur at the beginning of a cast or after dead track is called on another rabbit and the dogs are re-casted into the field. There can only be one set of strike and jump points given on each rabbit also. If a dog catches a rabbit when it flushes it from it's set up or sitting in the bed then he will get jump points for it, or strike and jump points if he was the first dog to actually strike in.

You mean there are rules. At our club we always just draw straws, throw darts, pitch quaters or take turns on who wins a hunt. Thought that was the way it was done. Man learn something new everyday.
Lp Rules
To Pine Top - You are right, I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. I was covering it from the scenario where another dog has actually struck in and is on the clock, and another dog in close proximity jumps and catches the rabbit. In that case the dog that caught the rabbit would only get 30 points and the dog that was on the clock would get 10 points for the strike. If no dog is on the clock and a dog catches a rabbit without opening then he would get the strike and jump points. We are saying the same thing, I just went around the world to say it.(LOL)

But the rule talks about the begining of the chase, not the beginning of each cast. So what constitutes the begining of the chase? If Dog A strikes but hasn't moved the line and that constitutes the beginning of the chase, then dog b jumps the rabbit. Per the rules Dog B could not be given jump points. So is the strike the beginning of the chase or when the dogs begin to move the line the beginning of the chase.

The book doesn't say anything about a "line" I hear this a lot. It says produce a rabbit. I saw a judge minus a hound after the handles and the judge saw a rabbit come out of the same briar patch as the hounds, but couldn't run it due to bad conditions. The judge said they didn't show him a line. If I was judging the cast it would have been a + 10.....

They never said whether the dogs A B C were males or female?
You guys are getting to technical.
Thats one reason I just hunt my dogs now.
If it were up to me Id say go judge the dogs on over all performance for 2 hours and bring back the best dog that hour.
How many have heard the judge after a cast say, boys this dog here is the winner but he wasnt the best dog in the cast. Now I see a problem with that.
How many have got beat by a dog that was just meandering around the whole hour and rabbits were sitting tight and this dog wonders over to a bush and urinates on it and just so happened he urinated on a rabbit and got a strike jump for it and won the cast.. And there was a dog in the cast just tearing up the brush the whole hour and got nothing fo it.
Well fire away, but that is my 2 cents worth.
I know you have to start somewhere, I say start with good judges ( houndsmen)

I didn't on thta one, that was an easy one, there are a whole lot of others that I would have to pull the rule book out on.(LOL)

Thanks, Pine Top. That clears it up. So the beginning of the chase occurs when the judge has determined the dogs have produced, however that may happen.
I didn't have to pull the rule book out on the original question. I knew that one off the top of my head because I always thought it ironic that LP always wants to promote a hound that runs as if to overtake its game, but no points are awarded when it does.
Rik, It is a strike as soon as the dog barks 3 times. Whether it's minus or plus is still to be determined but it is a strike.
Blue Tick, I agree w/ you. The rules say they have to produce a rabbit in the judges opinion. There was a big discussion on this about a year ago on this board, and I couldn't believe the amount of people that said they would minus a dog even after seeing the rabbit.
