Max, to be honest with you, I can't say that I'm familiar with that particular oil. However personally, I hate to use any ointments or medications on my hounds if not absolutely necessary. In order for us to have one of our own bitche's "dry up", we ususally do the following,.....and this is only after the pups are of correct age and health etc. to do so. The first thing to initiate is have pups spend less time with dam, and introduce a quality puppy food ussually a couple of hours before normal feeding times. Then let pups in with mom afterwards to nurse, keeping dam with pups at night, etc. Also decreasing food to the dam at this time also promotes a decrease in milk production. But if it becomes necessary to dry up the dam's milk, withhold all food and water for 24 hours. The next day, feed her one-quarter of the normal amount. The third day feed one-half the normal amount, and the fourth day feed three-quarters of the normal amount. Thereafter, feed an adult maintenance food accordingly. This info comes from a very good vet. book that I have obtained and have used and referred to in the past. We have had good results with this procedure. But, like I earlier stated, make sure that your pups are on dry kibble, and have LOTS of fresh drinking water. They can get dehydrated very quickly. When nursing from the dam, they were getting all the requirements necessary. Water intake, nutrients, vitamins, etc. Make sure that you are feeding a quality, appropriate puppy formulated feed. Everything else will fall into place naturally. If after doing this and your dam continues to lactate, there may be another problem in which you would want to seek professional medical attention. Hope this helps.

Excellent information Red Briar!

I do want to add that when you do the five day weaning that on the first day when you are not feeding any food, only give the bitch Ice chips or minimal water, then you can give free water as normal after that.

What you will need to watch for is if the bitch starts weaning herself because she has had enough or while doing the weaning yourself watch for the mammory glands getting hard, red, and inflamed. It sometimes occurs and the bitch can get mastitis. The areas can blister up and ulcerate.
