I took an 8 month old pup to the vet for a check-in/up and the vet said he had "weak" knees. The patella can be removed from its path easily. She went on to say that it was no problem for a foo-foo dog but if I planned on working him that it was an issue that required surgery to deepen the knee cap's travel groove (sorry, don't know tech. term). She also said that it may take care of itself in a couple months but after that it would be surgery repair only.
A little side note is that he just outgrew one of his littermates, that he was smaller than by a good 1/2", in a weeks time. Has anyone else had this problem and how did it work out, or is there anything that I can do to help? I know the breeder has never had a problem with this and his dogs have all been tanks when it comes to health. Any advice would be welcome.

Old Meg she was a gypsy;
And liv'd upon the moors:
Her bed it was the brown heath turf,
And her house was out of doors.
