use of electrolytes???

Post by windy hollow »

I have a male that wimpers all night after running rabbits all day, and I thought he was still running rabbits in his sleep, but in fact he's not asleep he's just laying there wimpering.
a beagler told me to get electrolytes for in his drinking water, and I looked for some time, and the only thing I could find was pedialyte, and I tried that, and it seemed to help but I cant get him to drink alot of it, because its orange flavored, and think that maybe more would help him entirely,if it were not flavored.
my vet told me that they are like athletes and their muscles get cramps in them, but I've never had a dog that did this before, has any of you seen this before?
and if so is there something unflavored and what is the recomended doseage?

There is unflavored. Check the drugstores. I buy the 8 oz bottles because it does not stay good after opening it for more than 48 hours. At least that is what the bottle says. Use a large syringe to squirt it in his mouth. I have yet to see a dog lap it up. Of course, you might mix it with some beef broth or chicken broth to flavor it doggy style. I use boullion cubes but get the low sodium ones. As for the dose, I don't think you can OD on it. Figure out what works for him. LEt us know how it works out.
