I try to let them name themselves through actions or their mannerism (easier to remember that way). I think it's fun to let them tell you what their name is...

How true that is because you end up calling them that anyway don't you!

I seen a name the other day ...the guy was either a banjo or guitar player( I play guitar) and first name was Leebo or Leabo, something like that but I forgot how to spell it  . Thought it was a cool first name. I always did like "Blossom" for a female though incase anyone needs new names ;)

I'm a bluegrass nut. I play guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, and a little fiddle. My littermate males are named Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Really make great music when they are hot on a rabbit!

I too like to let the dog name itself. However here are a few names that I would like to use someday:

Hero, (a good check dog who saves the day)
Hoover, (a big nose dog who sucks up the line like a vacuum)
Author, (a dog that writes the book on how to run a rabbit)

Biblical Names
Nimrod - the Son of Cush, grandson of Ham; the Babylonian hunter and builder of Ninevah
Nimrod for a dog that has a big mouth (babble) and hunts like crazy. You can build a pack around him.

Judah - The Lion of the Tribe of Judah
Judah for a dog that is relentless in hunt, yet hunts as if he has a strategic plan like a pride of lions

Joshua & Caleb - Young men who served under Moses
These two names are for young dogs who have the ability to go out and spy the land. In other words they go out and come back with good reports. They produce rabbits!

Peter - Apostle, one of the twelve disciples
Peter for that dog that doesn't know when to stop. Who started late, but later leads the pack

I'll stop now. I could do this for days.

Nothing could be finer!

My favorite hound name of all was a big lanky walker male I had named Retch.

Borrowed that name from Outdoor Life writer Pat McMannus who had a hunting buddy named Retch Sweeny.

A couple other names from McMannus stories that I plan to use are his old dog named Strange, and the old mountain man named Rancid Crabtree. Can't you see showing up at a field trial with a pair of beagles named Strange and Rancid?
