Coccidia

Post by BriarCreekBeagles »

The Vet told me it was a parasite.
Went to St. Louis for a few days to take my girls to the zoo and had a buddy stay with my pups. Had two, one male one female. When I left all was good and pups were doing great, came home last night and the female wasn,t doing good at all. She had dropped weight and wasn't energetic like usuall. She had diarhea and was vomiting and I thought it might be parvo. She was walking around and wanted attention last night but I couldn't get her to the vet because it was late. This morning she was real stiff and couldn't walk so I rushed her to vet. I took both pups just in case. She passed not ten minutes after getting to the vet. The vet checked both of there stool and said they had Contoxicity and roundworms and that is what killed her and the male had the same thing and that he should make it as it was not as bad with him. He gave me some antibiotics and wormed the male.
Has anybody had any experience with this type of thing and what was the outcome?

Are you sure it was not Coccidiosis? If so, they should be fine if you treat as the vet prescribes.

Left to go to missouri on sun got back tues night. My buddy said he didn't think it was anything serious or he would have called me.
Guess I know not to leave when I got pups and leave them someone who don't know squat about dogs. Lesson learned but I sure wish that pup wouldn't have had to go thru it with out me here to take care of her might still have her :( :blackeye:

Go to feed store and get sulmet. Treat all dogs. The female will carry the parisite and pass to pups. I lost 4 out of alitter of 5 for being out of town. Came back had 2 left started the sulmet in the water and lost one the othe came out fine. Now I treat all my pups every other week till they are weaned and then the older pups I keep I treat once a month. Mix it in the water and give for 2 to 3 days at a time.
