litter question
I was wondering at what age you first vaccinate your pups and then what age you first worm them and what wormer you use, Thanks!

Re: litter question
I'm no expert, but I first vaccinate at 6 weeks with 5+1 and first worm at 2 weeks with Nemex 2. Hope this helps.

Re: litter question
I start wormer at 2 weeks and then every two weeks and I start 7-way shot at 6 weeks and then at every 3 weeks until 15 weeks old. Just my way though I am no expert either.

Re: litter question
Shots:
6 week (5 way)
9 Weeks (7 WAY)
3 month (7WAY)
6 MONTH (7 WAY)
1 YEAR (7WAY)
2 YEAR (7 WAY)
Wormer:
I don't worm until 5 1/2 weeks or when weened. I beleive the dam provide the pups everything. i don't like to take chances with a pups immune system in the summer at 2 or 3 weeks. I think it weakens them and opens them up to worse things like Coccidia.....jusy my opinion!

Re: litter question
I worm the pups and the dam with Nemex starting at 2 weeks old and do it once a week till theyre weaned.
I give 7 way shots at 6, 9, and 12 weeks then a booster every year after that.
Not saying its the right way but its how I do it.

I don't give a pup a shot and a wormer at the same time either! Always wait at least three to 5 days...Agian, this is just how i do it...may not be right, but these are my rule of thumbs for my pups.

Re: litter question
I agree with sanfordssj.
I raise my pups in an above ground brooder with a run so I dont worry as much as when the pups are raised on the ground. If you do everything at once how would you know what the problem is if there's a reaction?

Re: litter question
The only thing I do at the same time is the 6 week shot and the Nemex.
So far (knock on wood) its never caused any problems for me.
Ive always been told that worms can take a young pup down quicker than anything.
Those of you that wait 5 or 6 weeks to worm them have never had any problems?

Re: litter question
The only time i had a problem was when i gave a shot and doubled up on the wormer at the same time. I don't know what was bad, but becasue of that i now space them out. I had a pup get coccidia right after a shot/worm dose. i blame myself for putting stress on her immune system....Ark wrote:Those of you that wait 5 or 6 weeks to worm them have never had any problems?

Re: litter question
Exactly. Coccidia will get pups faster than anything.
No, I've never had a worm problem, but mine are raised above ground, so my chances not to are better. If I vacc. one week i'll worm the next, only one thing a week. Worms will make them look lanky but thats about it, other than the heart worms. If I had a bad worm problem I would go about it differently but as of yet I haven't.
