tumor on female
ok guys ive been in beagles now for about 16yrs and ive never seen this guess im just lucky. but i have a female thats about 2 weeks from welping that has just developed a big tumor on the side of her bag in the back. she always had a small place about the size of a quater but its been that way for awhile well this has turned into a big place now about the size of a baseball. ive been told its either a fatty tumor as he seems not to cause her any pain or its breast cancer but its a smooth growth and everyone that i talked to said if it was cancer it wouldn't be smooth. my biggest concern now it how will this effect her on having these pups and will she be able to nurse them im figuring she's only going to have one side of her bag to do the milking with. anyone else ever seen this and what was the results. also i was told by one old timer that raised coonhounds for a long time say that after the pups 3 to 6 months the growth would go down alot. now my vet said he'd need to check it and depending on how bad or what that it would have to be surgically removed any thoughts on this as im worried about loosing my female and the pups been waiting along time on this litter. thanks in advance guys.

First and foremost not to start a war on taking care of your dog; but here is the deal. If this growth is cancerous, which it very well could be since it has been there a while and seems to be growing now that your dog is going to have puppies, I difinately would take her to the vet. Cancer can lay dormant for a while then take off like wild fire. The only way for certain to know that it is not cancer is to take her to the vet and have a biopsey done. If it is a cancerous growth and it grows to a blood vessil or to a lyph nod it can spread through out her body and she will be a gonner in no time. Cancer's in dogs can start out like a little hard pea under the skin or can be lots of lumpy things so don't take her health lightly. If it is a thorn in the breast it may cause other complications. I would hate to think she had a infection of some sort that could go toxic to the new borne. Your best option I feel would go to the vet and get a diagnosis at least you will know for certain what you are dealing with and what options you have.

I agree with TC. She should be seen by a vet. Its our responsibility to give our dogs proper medical care especially during a pregnancy and into old age.

Re: tumor on female
I'm guessing she had a small hernia and now that the pressure has increased from the pups taking up space, it has torn more open and the intestine is being pushed out.
I would go to the vet, he will most likely take the pups c-sect when it's time and fix the hernia while doing so...
Hoping for you the best Boomer...
