Illegal for dogs to chase after rabbits!

Post by Dr. Chris »

This again, will be voted on Nov. 6 2008. Enjoy this rabbit season & field trialing because for California it may be the last. You can count on it coming to your state soon! We better act, before it's too late.

The state of California is "again" considering a new law that will make it illegal for dogs to chase after rabbits.

The proposed bill, AB 2110, introduced by Assemblywoman Loni Hancock (D), outlaws the sport of "Live Field Coursing". However, it's written in such a way to apply to any situation where a dog owner is aware their dog is free to chase rabbits...

(b) For the purposes of this section, "live field coursing" includes any activity in which a dog is left untethered and allowed to track and pursue any rabbit, hare, or fox and that results in the injury or death of the rabbit, hare, or fox.

So, if you know your dog likes to chase rabbits in the backyard, and you allow it to do so, you will become a criminal if that rabbit is harmed, and may serve up to six months in a county jail, or a $1,000 fine.

The issue of Field Coursing became overblown when the ABC News affiliate in San Francisco ran a story that covered the sport. Instead of portraying it as a 'beagling' competition for hounds and beagles, they used words like, "Blood Sport", "slow terrible death", and "some of the pictures might be disturbing".

They've managed to turn a centuries old sport into a "rabbit rights" issue.

TORO CACA is exactly right. These people want to take away something from us that means so much and they could care less if a rabbit gets killed or not, they just want to brag about what they have done to their so called friends " animal rights groups" who support them in getting elected. It all comes down to who is putting money in their pockets.

The people in this country better wake up and become more active/vocal in their government. The government in this country at all levels is the epitomy of "organized crime." The one thing that I have learned is that the criminals in this country are not those breaking the law, but rather those who are making the laws...

I have seen laws passed in Washington state that outlawed trapping with leg hold traps, running Bear,Cougar and Bobcats with hounds. The people in the big cities out voted the small town folks in a big way. Western Washington has a lot more voters than the east side. I was the only one that put out any signs against outlawing trapping and hound hunting around here. I would talk to those that like to run hounds and they did'nt think the law would pass, it did in a big way.
Now they are roundin up the Elk on the Hanford site- no hunting- where the A-Bomb was built and hauling them to the Blue Moutains where the Cougar are thick and the Hanford Elk have never seen anything but coyote. I would bet not one Elk is left that they took there ,unless it tryed to return home. Its takes years of schooling to handling the top jobs for the game dept.

After the 08 elections we should be set. It should become legal to kill babies up until they are half way born and/or used like lab monkeys but it will become illegal to run rabbits. Probably be a push to make all dogs live in a house and dogs may gain the right to vote and draw social security by the 2012 elections.

Still the greatest country in the world. I just hope my grandkids will be able to say the same thing. Something better change in Washington soon or I fear they will not.

Dont forget CA is the state that still wont allow hunting of mountain lions even though they have moved from eating backyard pets to eating the humans out for their morning run. A rabbit is a heck of a lot less terrorizing then a mountain lion, so it doesn't surprise me in the least.

dogs chasing rabbits

Would someone please point out to me in our Constitution or Bill of Rights what rights an animal has,They don't want to let you mention God in public ,tried to hide IN GOD WE TRUST on the edge of the new Gold dollar took Prayer out of the schools ,which I believe was replaced by school shootings and rampant drug use and all other forms of totally ridiculous behavior,Now they are trying to take away a dogs "right to run a rabbit" did you ever think it would come to this?I may be odd but I see right and wrong in Black and White , I Don't believe in the gray areas .The sad thing is we have no one to blame but ourselves as parents for not teaching our children what the word NO means. And I think Andy Griffith once said" Why don't you all act like you got some smarts" Pretty good advice. What a lot of people don't understand is one persons rights exist only to the point where another persons rights begin,Denny

Actually it's the ones interpreting the laws. I saw an article in the newspaper where some kids turned a pheasant loose at a football game. As they were chasing the pheasant a football coach tried to stop it with his put and killed it. Now he is in trouble. This is a country where we spend thousands of dollars nursing a stray dog back to health after is was hit by an automobile yet we kill thousands of healthy dogs each day. We also kill thousands of healthy babies each day and then have to import illegal aliens to fill jobs.
