Took 2 dogs out this evening and had one bite in the back leg before I even had them off the lead. It was a good size Copperhead. I had Bynadryl in the dog box and gave him some right away. This was only about 20 minutes ago. Is this all that is needed. Bynadryl and antibotics?
Hey ryan, look at lynn perkins' info about this. He had a real good treatment.
Benadryl-1 tablet or 2 cc of liquid
1 cc penecillen
1 brown paper grocery bag
kerosene
give medicine daily for 2 days
Cut at least a 4 x 4 square of the bag and soak in the kerosene, once soaked hold soaked paper over fang marks for minimum of 5 min for 2 days this will draw poison and any infection out
Thanks for the info. I was just out there shaving the bite area in the lower left leg when I noticed some swelling under his left front leg in the chest area I can't find any bite marks there but Im not sure he didn't get hit twice.
Cowboy, I have only been out 2 times this summer and both times we had a run in with a copperhead within 10 minutes........lol, no wonder I don't care to run in the summer.
I think he's doing alright. He's not eating much but is still drinking pleanty of water. His back leg seems to be stiff where he was bit, but isn't really swollen. In his chest area where he also got bit is swelled up prety bad. I was thinking about stoping by the vet tomorro and getting some Nutri-cal since he isn't eating much. Anyone else have any ideas on getting him to eat?
He is eating alot better and moving around alot better today. I think he misses the rest of the dogs out in the kennel. Poor Rusty had to take his spot out there.........lol.
