Female in labor question

Post by Ronnyg »

I have a female that had 1 pup around 4pm or so. She hasn't had anymore and she is acting very calm. I am getting concerned cause I know there are more in her. Also the way she is laying isn't allowing the pup access to a nipple. Wondering at what point I should think about taking her in to see a vet. I don't wanna jump the gun cause it'll be an emergency after hours visit and that'll be expensive so I wanna know what a normal time in between pups and a what point should I think about a vet visit. Thanks

Still nothing.........I am concerned more with the pup. I have a female that has a 5 week old pup.......should I put this pup on her until she finishes having them? She is sleeping and the pup still hasn't fed that I am aware of.

Help the pup start to nurse. Nursing will help the dam to continue labor. I have had 3 hours between pups but I still got nervous. Get her up and walk her. Then there is always the feathering technique where you put you finger in and rub around the cervix. This is cause the labor to start again.

I ended up taking her to the vet last night........she had another pup on the x-ray table. She ended up having 10 pups total but 3 were still born. The 7 that lived are doing great as is mom. I figured I better be safe than sorry. Thanks for all the advice.
