This is really weird. The other day I put my good dog to sleep because of these symptoms. If you moved his neck right or left, he screamed with pain. If you picked his head up he went to the ground. The vet told me we could treat him with steriods and it might work and it might not.
To old to cut the mustard, you can always run beagles

Leah ... not the OP, but thanks for posting that article! Was reading through it and the symptoms sound EERILY similar to what one of my pups went through several years ago. Onset was probably around 5 months, he was painful all over and two Vets failed to give me a diagnosos. I've since thought it was Pano, but strangest thing was, after his neutering surgery the dog couldn't open his mouth. Was extremely sore. Symptoms of pain/stiffness just got worse from there and no Vet gave me a definitive answer. He's had x-rays of the spine, hips and longbones of the leg. No disc disease, tumors or infections.
Whatever it was, I don't think we'll ever know for certain, but damned if it didn't go away when he was 16 months old and stayed away ... about 2 days after we switched the dogs to a raw food diet. Food for thought.
That sounds exactly like what my pup had years ago. He was especially sensitive around the neck/upper back area. If you touched him there or tried to pick him up, he'd SCREAM and nip us. Initially the Vets thought slipped disc - they ran blood tests, $$$ x-rays. They eventaully just gave him Metacam and sent us on our way with no explination. We didn't think he'd live to see two years old. This dog is going to be 7yrs this June and is spry as a spring chicken, one of my wildest nowthornie wrote:This is really weird. Glad I could help ;-) There is also another condition that one of my beagles had. Masticatory myositis (sp) many times you never see them in the acute phase but, you'll know this was the problem as their heads have a sunken appearance and you cannot open their mouths. Even under anesthesia you cannot. Prednisone helps and the one I had never did get it back. There is nothing wrong with treating a dog on prednisone and I know sometimes it seems like they'll never get better but, they can.
