opinion on dog food
I was curious what everyones opinion on purina verses joy dog food or any other brand of dog food is. I have fed purina for quite a while and my houds have a lot of poop. Just wondering if there is anything better out there. Thanks for the input.

My experience with Joy is you are going to feed a lot and have a ton of poop just like Purina!!!!! There are much better foods out there that won't break your pocketbook. Try to locate one of the following, I'm not saying they are the very best food, but they are moderate priced and my dogs have done well on them... Sportman's Pride ($18/50lbs.), Hunter's Special ($16/50lbs.) or Hi-Standard ($16/50lbs.)

I fed Purina for years. I now feed Joy 24/20. I purchase it by the ton delivered for $13.00 per bag at this time. I have 51 beagles. The waste produced is much less, firmer and saves me alot of time. My dogs look better and have lots of energy even in the swamps. If you compare labels High Standard 24/20 and Joy are identical. Co-oP 24/20 is the exact same except for the last ingredient. Check it out. Do you think Joy might manufacture feeds for other labels?

I should have spelled it HI-Standard.
I like the joy 24/20 pretty good just a litte hard for me to get it but i went back to feeding the pride 26/18 if you'll look at the ingridents you'll see why for the price i don't think you can beat it. Ive feed purina products to for years theres alot of stool sometimse i just don't like to see the soft messy stool. i do feed dog chow during the summer if im not running hard.

I should add that when I was feeding Joy, I was feeding the "Maintenance Plus", some of Joy's higher end foods may be much better than what I was feeding. I fed Pro-pet when I had just one dog, and really liked it, virtually no stool at all, and the dogs just shined, but at $25 for a little less than 50lb. I had to find something at least a little more reasonably priced.
Haven't tried Joy, but have been feeding Purina for years. There is a lot of stool. Just recently switched to Black Gold so we'll see how this goes. I've also been known to feed a mix of Purina, Pedigree, & Ol Roy High Performance, didn't like the OR Complete Nutrition (TONS of loose stool & dogs didn't do well on it - weight or stamina wise).

Probably, you just have to find a dealer. Found another one near me that only charges $16 for a 50 lb. black bag (26/18).kennethgreene wrote:Is black gold available in michigan?
