never had it in adog yet but have had it in cow's an horse's but after hte first time i learned to keep a tube around,,, first time was with a cow we pulled calf cow could'nt get up called vet vet put iv in vane pushed a bottle of calcium in her an befor he walked out the door cow an calf was up... so now on my horse's i give a tube about 3 day's befor they are to foal .. to hard to get all the cow's in .... but like i said i keep a tube around for dog's cat's goat's an anything else we have around here....

A bitch should never be supplemented with Calcium during her pregnancy. It interferes with her bodies ability to make its own calcium. After whelping though you can go ahead and supplement. We usually just give cottage cheese for a few days after whelping. I also keep on hand Calsorb with is a gel that is high in calcium. Here is a link for this product.

I always heard same as Leah sez... don't give calcium supplements... and I never have. Never had whelping eclampsia either. The deal as I understand it is, the calcium/phosphorous ratio can be thrown off by too much calcium supplementation and this bad.

I do feel I have lost a few pups due to acid milk or some kind of problem with the milk, and was wondering if anyone has seen improvement by using something like Happy Jack milkade. It may have the proper balance of Ca/P and other electrolytes.
