That's pretty bad, imho. The sources of protein are shady sources and digestability probally is well under 56%Meat and Bone Meal, Ground Yellow Corn, Ground Wheat, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed-tocopherols and citric acid), Corn Gluten Meal, Beet Pulp, Chicken By-Product Meal,

Before we go down the road too far with this thread. The actual meat/flesh of an animal isn't the best part. Look at all those documentaries over in Africa when the big cats take down animals. What is the first part they go to? The guts! That is where all the good stuff is. Why do they go there first? Well, if they get their kill taken away from them from someone higher on the food chain, then they get the best part and leave the rest to the others. This is nature, and as hard as we try to understand her, you just can't mess with Mother Nature!
Also, in nature, nothing goes to waste. Even the bones are chewed and eaten, the marrow is a good food source and the bones themselves are full of calcium and keep their teeth clean and healthy. Try taking down a water buffalo with a sore and infected K-9 tooth. OUCH! Going to go hungry. So, the by-products aren't such a bad thing.
Now corn, wheat and that kind of thing... I guess it depends on what part of the kernal you are getting to see what digestability and protien that you are able to get from it.
The proof is in the pudding. Try it, and if your dogs don't do well on it, it isn't going to kill them (unless they get their corn from the Diamond plant in GA ).
I am going to be moving to Mich this summer and don't know if I am going to be able to get Black Gold up there. I will probably have to try and find a good quality feed and see what happens. Yes, I will look at the ingredients on the bag, but ultimately how my dogs look and perform will be the determining factor on what I settle on for a food.
Good luck with your decision and let us know how things turn out.

I have been feeding Joy for a couple of weeks and like the results for far, but I have to feed it a little longer before the final conclusion is in. Me and
two friend had been feeding Diamond. Two of us noticed a difference in the Diamond before it started being posted on the boards. Two of started feeding Hi-Standard and like it until we noticed more stool. The dogs still looked good on it. I picked up a bag Prism, it was higher priced than I was use to paying. I feed about half the bag when I noticed that the date. It was expired before I bought it, not going to buy feed from a guy that is selling expired feed. I can't say that the Prism was anything exceptional. The third guy continued feeding Diamond until the dog food got poisoned. He said he was happy with Diamond until than, never noticed any difference before that. He bought a bag of Black Gold and said that was some of the worst feed he ever feed. I told him all I ever read was good things about it. All three of us are feeding Joy now and like what we see. If we see the same results from it as we saw from Diamond before they had all the trouble we will be happy. I don't think anybody has been feeding it long enough to say it's the best. So all I can say is try for yourself you may like it, you may not.

I also feed big red ( Professional ) 20 / 40. What ever is in the blue bag. I really like it . It has little clean up and my dogs look and run good. My only concern now is that Southern States keep selling it.. I think they are not going to carry it now, only the lesser protein bags in Frankfort KY.

The big red i buy works good for me lesser clean as you say and the hounds look good, the local co-op here calls me when it goes on sell, they about every other month knock off 3.00 on the bag and if you buy a pallet {21 bags} they knock off another 2.00 per bag, your talking 10.00 a bag of what i have seen is a good quality dog food, at a really great price, and most of the big breeders and hunters have went to it here due to the Diamond scare, and all swear by it, so i will stay with it as long as it keeps working like it does.
